Business Administration and Management majors learn the fundamentals and skills
needed to excel in the business world. There is a wide variety of courses business students will
take in their college experience. Including business math, finance, economics, marketing,
logistics, and management classes. Students will continue to use the knowledge they have
obtained from these courses into their workforce.
Incoming students from high school will have no trouble finding a school with
instructional programs in Business Administration and Management. There are 2,866 universities
to choose from throughout the United States (MyMajors)! Some of the top business schools
include Stanford, Duke, California Berkley, and Harvard (U.S.News). With multiple universities
to choose from, students will be able to pick the most convenient to their likings.
I chose to attend California State Northridge (CSUN) because the school is close to my
home which meant I could stay home (save money and have delicious meals) and my dad is an
alumni that influenced me in my decision process. Also, because the top graduates are business
majors which led to me to assume that CSUN is a good business school.
Regardless of the industry or career students choose from, they will be choosing a major
that potentially will reward them with a good salary (who does not like money??). Students will
be able to choose a business career they want. Some of these jobs and careers associated to a
Business Administration and Management major include, Administrative Services Managers,
Business Teachers, Chief Executives, Sales Managers, Social and Community Service Managers,
and more! The median annual wage for a Business Administration and Management career is

$62, 360 with 116,480 people employed nationally (Bureau of Labor). Students will make a good
salary and choose the career that best suites them (a win-win situation).
My goal is to make a six digit salary, I believe choosing a Business Administration and
Management major will help me accomplish my goal. I want a career in financial management
because I want to direct financial activities (be my own boss) and for the salary.
I am currently enrolled in a common lower division course taken by freshman called
Mathematical Methods for Business (Math 103). So far, it is not as difficult as I expected it
would be knowing that the some of the math taught include business related topics in calculus
(still a lot of work). Before enrolling in spring courses this year; I was told by my advisor to
not take Econ 160 and Math 103 together because they would be too difficult. Now that my
spring semester is almost over, I should have taken both this semester to complete more units
towards my major, since Math 103 is only three units. At my school business majors require 27
units of common Lower Division core courses and 19 units of common Upper Division core
courses (not including G.E.). Also, English courses are required (if you thought you were done
with English think again).
Next year, I plan to take more required courses towards my major because most of the
classes are only three units each. Estimating in about 15 classes I have to take for required
courses in order to receive my degree in Business Administration and Management.
At CSUN I hope to understand operation management strategies, how to analyze
management problems, and improve my communication skills that I will use in my workforce
when I graduate. If I do not like my major I can always choose a different one because college is
about explore new ideas and topics. As of right now I am sticking to the plan of becoming a

financial manager and earning my degree. I have already made good friends and acquaintances
in Math 103 I plan to do business with in the future.
Students who will read my Business Blog should have confidence in why they should
choose a Business Administration and Management major. They will have a wide variety of
schools to choose from across the United States. Having this option to choose from should make
their decision process less stressful because I know for me it was to choose whether to stat in or
out of state. Also, after reading my blog they should be glad of the multiple career options they
can choose from. I know at first I thought business management was just being a manager of a
store, but there are more jobs than just this after I did some research. Incoming students should
be motivated to do well as a Business Administration and Management major because of the
potential salaries. I know for a financial manager can make more than $100,000 annually if
money does not motivate a person after a demanding four years of college I do not know what
will. A person would not want to take a business management major if they do not want to take
English, as it is a required course. There is a lot of required units in lower and higher division
courses. So someone who thinks they can get school done in 4 years may have to think again,
time is a factor. It is a lot of work including math and economics so if a student is not good with
these subjects they should think of another major that meets their skills.
