Building a PC Assignment 2

Describe the purpose and client requirements to build a PC

The PC is going to be built for the college, and it will be used by students in the
class for different tasks.
First off your PC needs to be a desktop in a classroom and will need software
installed on it such has Office, Blender and Adobe CC. it will also require a decent
monitor as well as speakers. You will also need storage space big enough for
software installation but that doesnt go for user files.
Description of the following components
1. CPU- the CPU (central processing unit) is the computers component thats
responsible for doing most of the commands from the computers other
hardware and software. The CPU is found in every device because if they
dont they would not be able to work because there would be nothing
connecting everything together. The CPU is the brains of the computer,
the higher the clock speed the faster the CPU will run.
CPU- Intel Core i7 5820K Extreme- the CPU looks like a small square with
two layers. The top layer is silver and the bottom is green. It usually slides
into the motherboard and has lots of powerful chips on it.
2. Hard drive- a hard drive is a memory devise that permanently stores and
receives information. The data is stored on a magnetic head. A hard drive
can be used to store any type of data including pictures, music, videos and
documents. Computers generally use hard drives to store files for the
operating system and software that run on the computer as well has
created files or downloaded to the computer by a user.
Hard Drive-Seagate 1TB (Hybrid 8GB SSD)- the hard drive is rectangular
shaped and made out of sliver and is normally sorted into the top on the
computer.
3. RAM- the computer memory is divided into two different types one of
which is ram (random access memory which is a fast temporary type of
memory in which programs applications and data are stored. The more
RAM you have the faster the computer runs. Some of the things that are
stored in RAM are the operating system, applications and the GUI.
RAM-16GB Corsair 2666mhz Vengeance LPX DDR4 (4x4GB)- the ram looks
rectangular and is flat and is normally thicker on one side than the other
because it has to fit into the slot of the motherboard.
4. Case-the computer case is used to contain all of the actual components
inside of a
Computer.
Case-NZXT H440- the computer case is the most visible part of the
computer because it covers everything else it is a really big rectangular

shape and is also wide and has slots in the back to connect wires to the
inside of the commuter.
5. Motherboard- the motherboard serves to connect all of the parts of a
computer together. One of the major functions of the motherboard is to
act as the hub so that other commuter devises connect.
Motherboard-Gigabyte X99M-Gaming 5- the motherboard is normally the
largest component of the computer because it holds all the other
components on top of it so it normally has loads of different slots for
components to fit into.
6. DVD Drive- a DVD drive is a component of a computer designed to utilize
digital disks or DVD. They are installed on every desktop.
DVD or Blu-ray Drive- the DVD drive in a small compartment in the top if
the computer usually square shaped which runs DVDs when you put them
in. and you open up the slot usually by pressing the button on the outside
of the computer.
7. Mouse -a small handheld device which is moved across a mat or flat
surface to move the cursor on a computer screen.
Mouse -Razer Death adder Chroma Gaming Mouse 10,000dpi- the mouse
is a small piece of hardware outside of the computer which uses a USB
lead to connect to the computer. It has a right click and left click and also
something to scroll to give commands.
8. Keyboard-A keyboard is the set of typewriter like keys that enables you to
enter data into a computer and other devices.
Keyboard-Razer Death Stalker Gaming Keyboard- the keyboard is a piece
of hardware outside of the computer which uses a usb lead to connect to it
it is a rectangular shape and has loads of buttons on it to give commands
9. Monitor- The monitor is the piece of computer hardware that displays the
video and graphics information generated by the computer through the
video card. Monitors are very similar to televisions but usually display
information at a much higher resolution.
Monitor-Iiyama 24" E2483HS-B1 LED (HDMI, DVI, VGA)- the monitor is a
piece of hardware outside of the computer and is rectangular with a stand
and is usually connected with a DVI or a HDMI cable.
10.Sound- A speaker is a term used to describe the user who is giving vocal
commands to a software program. A hardware device connected to a
computer's sound card that outputs sound generated by the computer.
2010i Bookshelf Speaker- speakers are a cuboid shape and usually comes
in pairs and has a big circle on the front of them where the sound comes
out and ports in the back to connect it to the commuter.

11.Graphics- A GPU, or graphics processing unit, is used primarily for 3-D

applications. It is a single-chip processor that creates lighting effects and
transforms objects every time a 3D scene is redrawn. These are
mathematically-intensive tasks, which otherwise, would put quite a strain
on the CPU. Lifting this burden from the CPU frees up cycles that can be
used for other jobs.
Graphics Card-AMD Radeon R9 Fury X 4GB- the graphics card is a cuboid
shape with wires going into the fan in the back and ports to go into the
motherboard in the front.
12.PSU/Fan-The power supply unit is the piece of hardware that's used to
convert the power provided from the outlet into usable power for the
many parts inside the computer case.
Fan/heat sink-Corsair H80i GT High Performance Liquid Cooler- the fan is
one of the most visible parts of the computer and the loudest depending
on the size. The fan is normally plugged into the motherboard to cool
down the computer if it overheats.
The first thing you have to do is collect the computer case and a motherboard
then you have to attach the motherboard the case with screws. So I will connect
the motherboard directly to the computer case using the inbuilt clips. Next I will
attach the psu and fan to the case and motherboard by clipping them to it and
by using screws on the PSU. Next I will insert the CPU into the socket by sliding it
in and it will connect automatically. Then I will insert the RAM into the DIMM slots
by clicking them into place I will then attach the hard drive using the sata cable
onto the motherboard and secure it with screws on to the case caddy. I will then
attach the DVD rom using the sata cable and secure it in place with the inbuilt
screws. I will get the graphics card and slot it into the PCI slot by pushing it into
place. I will then slide the lid back onto the case, at this point the PC is now built
and is ready to be tested. Then I can attach the monitor to the pc using an HDMI
cable. Then I Attach a power cable to the monitor and pc by plugging it in. and
finally I had the accessories such has a keyboard and mouse using an usb cable.
I will need the following tools to build my PC:
1. Screwdrivers Cross and flat heads
2. Chip inserters for the CPU
3. Antistatic bands
4. Work boards to work on and not damage the equipment
5. Scissor for cutting the packaging
6. Knife for stripping wires
7. Pliers - for pulling components

Using the health and safety document on Moodle explain what you
would need to do to be safe when building a PC
You first have to make sure the computer is not fully connected to the mains
power, you also have to be careful of sharp parts of the computer and take your
time just in case you cut your self on something because it could easily become

infected. Make sure you are in a tidy position to lift your computer because it is
heavy and awkward to carry. You should try to force part into slots if it doesnt go
in easy it probably wont fit because its not supposed to go there and you might
break the computer if you force it in and also make sure everything is the right
way around. You should was your hands after using the computer and putting
your hands on the inside of it. You should not have any sort of liquid near the
computer because if you spill it can damage our commuter tremendlesly. Search
up where you are buying your components from unless its from a familiar
source.
A compatibility check of hardware components and software resources
Blender, Adobe and Office are compatible with the PC Specs because my CPU is
a 64bit processor which these programs need, the speed of my chip is also faster
than the requirement of the programs below. My RAM also meets the
requirement of 8GBs for the software listed below, finally I have a 240GB hard
drive which is more than ample for the software to be installed.
