Introduction
Therelationshipbetweendoctorandnursehasalwaysbeenverycomplex.They
oftenargueabouttreatmentforpatients.Nursesinparticularoccasionallyhavetoact
withoutapprovalfromorconversingwiththedoctor.Thishasleadtomany
discrepanciesbetweenthetwoprofessions.Despitethesearguments,doctorsand
nursesbothseetheimportanceofthisrelationship.Thedoctorknowsheorshecannot
beintheroomatalltimes.Likewise,thenurseknowsheorshedoesnthavethelevel
ofeducationthedoctorhas.Therelationshipisdelicateandrequiresthreethings
competence,respect,andtrust.Thearticleisveryeffectiveandgivesmultipleexamples
fromdoctorsandnursesontherelationship.

Themainpurposeofthisstudyistoshowwhathealthcareprofessionalsactually

thinkofeachother.Therelationshipbetweendoctorandnursehasalwaysbeenseen
asproblematic.Trustisaverypredominantvariableinthedoctornurserelationship.
However,thereismoreonekindoftrustrequiredinthisfield.Thetwotypesrequired
areCalculusbasedtrustandIdentificationbasedtrust.Calculusbasedsuggeststhata
professionalwillfollowaspecificprotocolwhereasIdentificationbasedtrustsuggestsa

professionalcanmakesnapdecisionsontreatmentbasedonhisorherpersonal
experiences.
ThisparticularstudywasperformedinNewZealandandwilllookatthe
perceptionsbetweennursesanddoctors.Themethodusedwouldbeaqualitative
methodologywhereinformationwouldbecategorizedbasedonimportance.The
participantswouldtakepartinanindepthinterviewwithapeer.Thesampleincluded
anequalnumberofdoctorsandnurses.Anequalnumberofmaleandfemaledoctors
wasselectedtoensuretheresultswouldnotbeskewedbasedonsex.Allnurseswere
femaleduetoalackofmalenursesinthenursepopulation.Otherfactorsinthe
selectionprocessincludedurbanandrurallocationsaswellasprivatelyowned,
communityowned,andgeneralprimarycarepractices.
Afterformallyconsentingtotheinterview,theindividualswereinterviewedwithin
afourteendayperiod.Thelocationoftheinterviewwasdecidedbytheinterviewee.
Theinterviewconsistedofcertainquestionsbasedoncurrentprofessionandpast
experienceaswellasthoughtsabouttheotherprofessionsroles.Oncethedatawas
sorted,theintervieweewasthengiventheopportunitytoreviewthedatatoensure
properinterpretation.Ifsomethingwasincorrect,itwasthenchanged.
Bothgroupsrecognizedeachothersprofessionsarecomplimentary,however,
verydifferent.Bothdoctorsandnursesagreedthattheroleofthenursewastoform
andmaintainrelationshipswiththepatients,andbothagreedthatdoctorsarethe
biomedicalpartoftheprimarycaresystem.
