school in order to stay current with accounting, audit, and tax courses and even attain their

Questions:
1. With a firm of your size and client base, how are you able to create a personable
relationship with each and every client that walks into your door?
2. What is the purpose of putting your employees into Engagement teams?
3. How is this seen as a more productive process than allowing individual employees to
work hands on with their own clients?
4. If I were hired at the firm, would I be placed in specific training and/or review courses
structured to aid in the review process required to take a CPA exam?
5. How do you implement the firms mission statement in each day of your work?

Sarah Smith
GMS Surgent CPAs & Advisors
237 Lancaster Ave, Suite 1000
Devon, PA 19333
Dear Sarah,
I would like to be considered for the Entry Level Staff Accountant position with GMS Surgent CPAs
& Advisors. I learned of your firm through Professor Flynn at West Chester University. I will be
graduating in the spring and would have the opportunity to begin work before this fall. I am an
extremely motivated individual and have an outstanding work ethic. I also thrive in independent
problem solving, but know how to collaborate and work well with a team. I attain a very strong
understanding of the AICPA, FASB, and GASB. Through class time and internship experience, I
have gained a great working knowledge of various aspects of tax and accounting. While at my
internship, I also acquired a working knowledge of corporate, individual, partnership, and fiduciary
tax return as well as how to assemble them. I am always seeking to grow and strengthen my
knowledge and I am always up for a challenge when learning.
I am currently majoring in Accounting & Finance at West Chester University and will receive my
degree with 150 credits in the spring of 2017. I have taken many accounting and finance courses
including; Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Intermediate Accounting, Economics,
Corporate Finance, Investments, Principals of Management, as well as Federal Taxation 1 and
Federal Taxation 2.
Upon graduating, I hope to work for a public accounting firm that will provide me with a program
dedicated to my professional development in preparation for my CPA exam. I would like to then
continue on at a public firm, concentrating on taxation. With the right opportunities and cutting edge
experience, I believe that I can achieve this goal. I feel that given the opportunity to serve as an intern
with your firm, I will be provided with the exposure needed to further my career in accounting.
I am an extremely organized and detail-oriented worker. I am a fast learner and have a strong work
ethic as well. I just finished up an internship at MB Advisors, an accounting firm located in Media,
PA. There I learned from hands on experience working on individual as well as corporate tax returns.
I also had the opportunity to work with clients first hand, working through their accounting dilemas. I
have been working since my sophomore year of high school at Coco Blu, which is a local boutique in
Wayne, PA. At Coco Blu, I have gained vast experience in the small business world and grown as an
individual. I was able to cultivate my communication skills and learn how to work well with a
diverse team.
I truly understand and appreciate the principal component of GMS Surgents mission statement,
Personal Attention-Valuable Results. Through my work experience I have learned the importance
of customer-employee relationships and I understand how to demonstrate constructive
communication in those relationships.
