WEBSITE AND CLASSROOM BLOG CREATION TOOLS

Name: Kayla Sullivan

Directions: The students could use a blog, wiki or other website-creation tool to learn the required learning
standards. The blog that I created for my classroom includes a subjects tab which will have all of the
information that we are studying. On the subjects tab is a tab for Language Arts. This is where the
information will be that the students and parents need to look at. The tab includes what the students are
learning for the month in the subject of language arts. Videos of songs will be included so the students can
use them to better understand the subject. There will also be a worksheet included that the students can use
for extra practice. Eventually I am going to have the students create their own blog. The LoTi level will be
level 4 integration. The students will be integrating the technology into the lesson by using the edublog
website to create their own example of a blog.

Brief Description of Learning Experience: The teacher will create a classroom blog using a free website
called Edublogs. The website will be created for the students and parents to use at home. The blog will
provide different resources for the parents to use to help their students learning. Videos will be posted that
will provide the students with another way to learn the material if they are confused about any of the topics
that are discussed in class.

Student Engagement: Knowledge-building is an indicator of engaged learning that is part of this lesson.
Learning experiences are set up to bring many perspectives to solving problems. Another indicator of
engaged learning that is incorporated into this lesson is that the instructional model is generative.
Instruction is focused upon constructing meaning, providing meaningful activities and experiences.
Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi): The LoTi level that is used for this lesson would be level 4,
integration. The students will be using the blog as a learning tool. This tool will be serving as a supplement
to classroom instruction and will be provided with videos and worksheets that the parents can use at home
with their child. These videos and worksheets will be extensions of the lessons that the students will be
learning in the classroom. This will provide a way for the parents to be engaged and up to date on what the
students are learning in the classroom. Also, the supplement videos and activities will help the student by
providing another way for the student to learn the material is he/she is struggling.
Importance of technology: Using a website tool is critical to the project because, it provides a place for
students and parents to go to for extra help with what the students are learning. All of the videos and extra
help worksheets will be in one place. The information provided on the blog could be given out on a handout
that has links provided or could be sent out in an email but handouts and emails can get lost. With the blog,
all of the information will be in one place at all times. Teachers can post reminders on the blog so that the
students dont have to have the responsibility of remembering to tell their parents something.

Inspiration (optional): I did not use a model for my blog.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: There are some possible issues surrounding Internet safety and
student privacy when a student creates their own blog. You have to make sure your students understand
how the district handles student work and student pictures online. Parents are asked to return a
Receipt of Family Guide indicating that they have read and agree to the policies in the policy guide.
If students parents have opted out or did not sign the Receipt of Family Guide, it still does not mean
that student photos or work cannot be published on your class website, it simply means that teachers
must seek parental permission for each individual instance of publication. Teachers must help
students understand that they should never place personal contact information or a personal
photograph on the internet, email, or any online communication device. Moderated discussion and
moderated comments are allowed on sites, but unmoderated or direct posting is not.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity. My personal goal for this activity is for the
students to get extra practice with the topics we are discussing in class. This extra practice is meant to be
done at home with the students parents. I want the parents to not only know what the students are learning
in class, but I want them to be involved in the students learning as well. I created a subjects tab on the
blog and under that tab is a Language Arts tab. There are two tabs under the Language Arts tab called
Parts of Speech and Sentence Types. Both of these tabs are about the topics that the students are
learning in class for the month. Both of the tabs under the Language Arts tab include videos that relate to
the subjects of parts of speech and sentence types. These videos are catchy songs that the students could
learn to help them remember the different parts of a sentence. Under the Parts of Speech tab, there is an
extra worksheet that the student could complete at home with his/her parents. The worksheet has the parts
of speech and places for the student to write examples. This will give extra practice on the subject by
having the child use their memory to come up with examples. It will serve as a good review.
