The poem is about a sibling running away and the personas are the brother and
mother.

It signifies that Lulu escaped through the window literally and that Lulu is
starting a new way of life, figuratively.

Mother is at a loss about what is happening and cannot think straight.

Comparison: The voice crying out in pain or anger is compared to a gust of rain

Synopsis

From the very beginning, th epersona wants to know from his mother what
has happened to his sister,Lulu. His sister seems to have disappeared or run
away. Lulus bed only has an old rag-doll and a shoe. Her window is wide
open and her money-box is missing from her shelf. The personas mother
sheds tears, looks upset and has thrown a crumpled note into the fire. She is
pacing up and down looking troubled and helpless. Mother tells persona that
the loud noise and roar of an engine he heard late in the night are all part of
a dream. The cries he heard are supposed to be a gust of rain. The persona is
still in the dark about the whereabouts of his sister, Lulu.
