Story Box/Lesson Plan
I had to read a book and then create a
group of lesson plans. I learned about the
different stages in developing a lesson plan
and how to integrate the academic
disciplines, which will help me in the future.
Reading Project Power Point
I made a power point for this assignment,
on a book that I read to the class One
Bean. The assignment involved written
and oral expression, as well as print
awareness and vocabulary. I learned how
to connect the assignment with the VA
Foundation of Learning Standards.
Booklist Assignment
I chose 3 different childrens books and
then I wrote a summary for each book. I
connected them to the different identities. I
learned about the different kinds of family
structures, in addition to the influences of
family styles/dynamics on a childs
development and learning.
STEM Program at Wolf Trap
STEM is an acronym for: science,
technology, mathematics and engineering.
I wrote about the STEM Program that the
Wolf Trap Institute offers. I learned from
this assignment that there are several
valuable and useful resources available for
parents and educators to benefit from, that
can make learning experiences fun.
Pinterest Board Assignment
I made Pinterest boards from 3 different
academic disciplines and then integrated
them to the various skills and standards. It
was an interesting and unique activity .I

Physical Development Checklist
I learned how to use a checklist effectively
and observe the specific areas in physical
development like fine and gross motor
skills through this assignment. The
checklist enabled me to see the strengths
and areas of improvement that the child
required. I now know more about his
development and needs.
Infant and Toddler Environmental
Assessment
I went to a preschool facility and did an
infant/toddler assessment using a
checklist. I learned to use a checklist
efficiently, as well as learned about the
health and safety procedures that are
required for early childhood programs. The
importance of looking at the different areas
like the program, staff/parent interaction,
child guidance and physical space were
clarified.
Emotional Intelligence
I learned about the role of emotional
intelligence and the influence of emotions
on the development of young children. The
correlation and importance of social
emotional learning in the academic success
of children was also emphasized. It was an
informative and intriguing assignment.
Early Intervention/EI
EI is very important because the first years
of life are a critical developmental time in
laying the foundation for all that is to come
.I learned that it is a support system that
consists of programs/procedures
to facilitate special needs children. By
doing this assignment I am more
knowledgeable about EI and better
equipped to help children with special
needs.
Learning Theories
This assignment was about the different
educational theories. It was really
informative and interesting to learn about
the differences and similarities of each
theory. I am more knowledgeable and can
blend different methods/strategies from the

Budget
This assignment was my attempt of writing a budget
for a child care center. The main purpose of a budget
is whether the projected income proposed will meet
the expected income. I dont plan to take on the
challenge of being a center director, but I did learn
how to be a better part of a team that supports the role
of the director.
Case Study
I learned a lot by doing this project. It was
a demonstration of all that I had learnt in
the CHD courses. The significance of the
six NAEYC standards was apparent in all
the different stages and I applied the
knowledge that I had gained of the
standards in the case study.
Educational Philosophy
This was an interesting and thought
provoking assignment, because I never put
in words an educational philosophy before.
It made me think about the areas that were
most important and close to me about
education. Diversity and acceptance of
every child for his/her uniqueness were
definitely the highlights of my educational
philosophy.
Resume
I learned the primary purpose of a resume;
a summary of ones skills, abilities and
accomplishments. This assignment was
very beneficial a, it taught me the correct
format and layout of a resume. The dos
and donts of a resume were clarified as
well.
Culture and Food Preference
In this assignment I had to compare and
contrast different food pyramids from 2
different countries. This was an interesting
and fun activity. I learned about the
influences that diet and nutrition can have
on the overall lifestyle and development of
a child.
Reflection on Early and Middle Childhood
I wrote a reflection paper on early and
middle childhood years of a child, which
was very informative. Early childhood is
also known as the sensitive period and

the play years as well. I learned about the


influences that the development of a child
have on school readiness and success in
future.
