Portfolio Artifact Description: My Classroom - Using drawing tools to create a 2dimensional layout of a grade school classroom
What you learned: My Classroom project was something that came easily to me since
Ive worked in many different classroom set-ups before. I took bits and pieces from the
different classrooms Ive worked in before and cooperated it in my classroom. I started
out by going old school and drawing it out on paper. I did about at least five different
classroom drafts before I began to form it in the computer software. During the draft
process, I realized that each grade level (K-12) have different dynamic classroom set-ups.
Since Im working towards being an elementary school teacher I decided to create a
classroom that could work just as well with a class full of 1st graders up to a class full of
5th graders. After keeping all of this in mind, I was now ready to move forward and
begin building my final classroom in my software. During this process the duplicate and
flip tool soon became my best friends. It helped me make sure every desk and chair were
the same size and shape. In addition to those tools, my software comes with an alignment
tool that helped me make sure everything was aligned evenly throughout the classroom.
National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS)T Addressed:
Standard #1 for both teacher and student standards. Teachers will promote, support, and
model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness. Teachers will use models to
collaborative knowledge by constructing and engaging in students, colleagues, and others
in face-to-face and virtual environments. Students demonstrate creative thinking learning
with, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using
technology. Students will create original works as a means of personal or group
expression. Students will use models and simulations to explore complex systems and
issues. Found at http://www.iste.org/standards.aspx (Links to an external site.)
Application of Skills Learned for the Future: Projects like this one are great to help
children think outside the box by sparking their imagination & giving them freedom of
creativity. I can easily see myself using this project with my future students. I feel that by
I give my students a say on how they would like their classroom is set up it would make
them feel as if the classroom is theirs as much as it will be mine. By taking some of their
ideas and applying it to our classroom it can help many students feel safe, comfortable
and eager to learn.
