Stop Animal Testing
Animal Testing does not only affect the animals, it also affects the humans too. People
think that animals are the same as humans, but no animal is the same as a human. When there are
new medicines out the animals might react positively to it, but when a human takes it they may
have a bunch of side effects that the animals did not have. In America there were 106,000
deaths a year the deaths are attributed to reactions that are from the medical drugs (Humane
Society). If the humans are not reacting the same to the new medicines that they have out, and
then they should not be testing them on animals. Over half of the side effects cannot be detected
in the lab animals when they test the medications. If an animal is in pain or is uncomfortable, the
animal cannot say what they are feeling. Animal testing is not only bad for the animals it is also
bad for the humans because when they test the medications on the animals they react positively
with the medications.
Animals do not react the same way to the drugs like the humans. The medication Vioxx
was shown to protect the hearts of tested animals, but it caused many heart attacks and strokes, in
up to 139,000 humans (Jentsch). Vioxx was tested on the animals and it did not show any side
effects to the animals, but when the humans tried it they suffered many strokes and heart attacks
from the medication. No animal is an exact match for a human because if the animals were exact

Anderson 2
matches then they would have the same side effects as the humans have. No animal has the same
reactions to the medications like the humans have. The animals may react to the medicine in a
different way than the humans do. Each year 2.1 million Americans are hospitalized by medical
treatment due to the medications (Bateson). If there are that many humans being hospitalized
even when the medication is being tested and passed on the animals, then there should not be any
more animal testing because it is not working. The drugs that were tested on the animals do not
always work out on the humans, 92% of the medications are passed on animals but immediately
failed when they were first tried on humans (Kahn). If the animal testing is not working on the
humans but is being passed on the animals it does not make the humans and animals the same.
Still births are caused by drugs, 88% of the medications are passed on pregnant monkeys but
are causing problems with the humans (Levi). If it gets passed with the animals but then the
humans use it and it fails on the humans, then it does not make humans and animals the same.
The birth defects that happened with humans did not happen with animals. When they test the
medicines on the animals they do not always have the same affect that the humans have,
sometimes the animals have no side effects with the medications. If the animals and humans
have different side effects and do not react the same way with the medications, then it does not
make animals and humans the same.
In the testing lab they torture the animals though out the tests that they have to go
through. Through some of the tests some of the animals get shocked, burned, poised, and killed.
Many of the animals that get tested on are held captive and they have to stay in their cage until
they get tested on again. Animals do not deserve to get tortured, the animals cannot say what
they are feeling, and they also cannot tell you if it causes pain. The tests that most animal do is
they have to get superglue in their eyes, or they have to have their eyes opened for days at a

Anderson 3
time (McAlpine). Other testing the animals have to be pricked with needles, and take medicines
that will kill them. Sometimes the animals may die from the tests, but if they dont die from the
tests they will be put to sleep.
Chimpanzees are the animals that get tested the most because many people believe that
they are just like humans. The Humane Society of the United States is pushing Congress to bar
invasive research on chimpanzees, and a few other intelligent primates. There are about 1,000
Chimps that get tested on and kept at the testing labs. Chimpanzees anatomy is not like the
humans, but they are used every day to get medicines tested on them (Munro). The Chimps
have to suffer a lot of pain through the tests, and the chimps cannot tell you what they are feeling
or what is wrong. The drugs that cause human birth defects almost all of them are passed to
chimpanzees.
Animals and humans are not the same; they both react different to medicines. The
animals have to go through many harsh tests and get tortured all of the time and it doesnt benefit
the humans either. If the animals are tested with the medicines, they are passed with them and the
humans do not have the same side effects. Animal testing is bad for both the human and the
animals. Animals do not deserve to go thought the stress, and the torture that they have to go
through. Animals cannot communicate with us either so it makes it a lot harder to test
medications on animals.
