WILMINGTON, North Carolina- Another torrid start from Chris Flemmings
paced the Seahawks yet again as UNCW defeated the College of Charleston,
65-55, in a Colonial Athletic Association mens basketball game on Saturday
night in Trask Coliseum.
The Seahawks benefitted from Flemmings third straight game over 20
points, as his 25 points moved the Seahawks to 16-5 and 8-2 in the
conference. College of Charleston had its three-game winning streak
snapped, dropping them to 5-5 in the conference, 13-8 overall.
Flemmings paired his 25 points with 5 rebounds, going 9-of-15 from the floor.
He was supported by junior guard Denzel Ingram and freshman guard C.J.
Bryce who added 13 and 10 points, respectively. Junior center C.J. Gettys was
a defensive force in the paint, pulling down nine rebounds and blocking four
shots to help hold the Cougars to the lowest points scored by a Seahawks
opponent this season.
Marquise Pointer led three Cougars in double figures going 6-of-13 from the
field to total 17 points. Jarrell Brantley trailed just behind Pointer, pouring in
15 points on a rough offensive night for the Cougars. Charleston shot just 35
percent for the game and turned the ball over 18 times.
Flemmings caught fire early, sending in his first three field goal attempts, all
from beyond the arc. College of Charleston stayed close as Pointer and the
Cougars matched the Seahawks shot-for-shot, deadlocking the game at 1818 with 9:20 left in the first half.
The first drought struck, however, as it took the Cougars four minutes to
score their next bucket. Fueled by Charlestons inability to score, Flemmings,
Bryce, and sophomore Jordon Talley, put together a 17-4 run to give the
Seahawks a 35-22 lead with a minute to go in the half.
College of Charleston chipped away at the lead, however, as the second half
began. Following a Nick Harris dunk and two Jarrell Brantley free throws, the
Cougars found themselves down just five points with 18 minutes to go.
After the teams traded field goals over the next few minutes, a Cameron
Johnson triple and a Jarrell Brantley dunk cut the lead to 45-41 with 12
minutes left in the game
The Cougars would go on to miss their next eight shots and scored just one
point over a six-minute field goal drought. The Seahawks used the drought to

gain their largest lead of 15 points with just 4:45 left in the game. The lead
proved to be insurmountable as the Seahawks held the Cougars at bay over
the final minutes.
The Seahawks begin a two-game road trip when they travel to Hofstra in a
matchup of first-place teams on Thursday night, tipping off at 7 p.m. College
of Charleston looks to rebound from the loss and will host Towson on
Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.
