Rationale:
This unit will help you develop your ability to critically analyse and integrate your research, contextual
understanding, materials, methods and skills to solve a Time Based Problem in art and design.
Time based activities may include any form of communication that requires a narrative or sequence of
images, sounds or information, formed by the interaction of time, movement and space. You may directly
explore and address traditional moving image media or support and extend other forms of art and design
activity, these core components act as the basis for your visual story telling in animation or video.
As part of your Art & Design course you are also encouraged to develop a number of important personal
and professional skills (PPD, see the table above) that will allow for greater success in any future career
that you choose. This Brief gives you the opportunity to improve each one.

Introduction:

Assignment Brief Time Based Problem Creating Moving Art | Ual L3 Dip Art and Design

In this brief you are expected to extend your personal visual language as a way of exploring subject matter
and ideas. You will build upon your growing knowledge of 2D and 3D materials, processes and techniques,
you will explore time-based media to provide a source of inspiration for outcomes based on your chosen
theme, this will also help to enhance and inform your project.
Drawing is an essential part of the creative process and initial development. Sculptors and designers use
drawing as a vital tool in expressing and communicating their ideas. So remember. initial ideas and
development are as important as your final outcomes themselves!!!
You will need to comment on the suitability of each material, process and technique you have used and
how each has changed-influenced your design.
All models and techniques should be photographed and recorded. Each recorded material should be
linked to an artist/sculptor/animator working in a similar way. Make sure you have their name and title
