Subject: Math
Objectives:
(Statements about what the children will do, written out as the student will. Include objectives for your chosen content
area(s). Refer to the TEKS and ELPS. The number of objectives should meet the number of TEKS and ELPS)
Lesson Plan:
Introduction: (Anticipatory Set/Motivation): I will tell the students that we will keep reviewing addition and that
we will be using blocks and we will be acting out the Math problem with our friends.
Process:

I will bring two students to the front. I will explain that I will be the storyteller and my two friends will be
the actors. I will give one student 4 blocks and then give the other student 2 blocks. Then I will say, my
first friend has 4 blocks and my other friend has 2 blocks. Then I will say, Friend one has 4 blocks, then
friend 2 gives friend one 2 more blocks. How many blocks does our first friend have now?
Then I will tell them they are going to practice with me and I will pass out 5 blocks to each student.
Then I will put the students in groups of two and they will be acting out the problem 2+3 with me.
Then I will tell them that one person will have to have 2 blocks and the other person will have to have 3
blocks. Then in order to show they are adding 2 blocks the person that has 2 blocks will have to give it to
the person that has 3 blocks. Then we will act it out together by having them pass their blocks to their
partner and then I will ask them how many blocks does their partner have now?
Then I will tell the students that they will be acting out a problem using blocks with their classmates. I will
explain to them that they will need a storyteller who will be saying the addition problem and two actors to
demonstrate it using their blocks.
Then I will put the students in groups of three and I will pass out baggies where there will be a problem on
a piece of paper and blocks for them to show an act out the math problem with their group.
Then I will give them a minute to decide who will be the storyteller and two actors and practice how they
are going to act out and show their addition problem. Then each group will come up and show the class.
After the students have acted out their addition problem they will go back to their desks.
9. Then the students will complete a Addition number line worksheet. If they finish early they will have an
extra fish addition worksheet to work on.
Information Giving: How to add using blocks and acting out the Math problem
Modeling: How to show your work in Math using blocks and acting out the addition problem
Check for Understanding: The Addition number line worksheets
Guided Practice: Showing the students how to act out the addition problem using blocks
Independent Practice: the students will be working on the Addition number line worksheet independently at their desks.
Closure/Culminating Activity: Students will be coming to the front of the classroom to act out the Addition problem they were
assigned.
Enrichment/Extension:

Assessment/Evaluation:
(State your method of evaluating whether or not the students learned the concepts or skills listed in your
objectives above. State WHAT you will assess and HOW you will assess.) Self-Assessment on how the lesson was presented by you and
perceived by the students
My assessment will be the Addition number lines worksheet. I am using the number line worksheet
as my independent practice and assessment because the students needed practice using the number
line. The students will have to show their addition using a number line. The students will each get a
unique worksheet. I have differentiated the number line worksheet to have problems that are at each
of the students level. There are four groups; the first group will have addition problems from 0-10, the
second group 11-20, the third group 21-30, and the fourth group 31-40.
