Fitzgerald 819 Kinau Street, Apt B3 Honolulu, HI 96813 (808) 457-9116 ‘To whom it may concern: My name is Sheri Fitzgerald and I am commending student teacher Jessica Lewis for successfully completing the graduate program in Secondary Education at Chaminade University of Honolulu. Itis with excitement that I have been able to witness Jessica’s growth for the Student teaching practicum this spring 2016 semester. As her university supervisor I can attest to the commitment and enthusiasm that she upholds. Jessica has been a professional, caring, compassionate, and highly organized teacher of science at Lahaina Intermediate School in Lahaina, Hawai'i, She has also been fortunate to have a supportive mentor and cooperating ‘teacher, Mr. Crosby Beam, for this practicum. ‘As a practicing science teacher at the middle schoo! level, Jessica has afforded her students rich, relevant, and rigorous experiences. Throughout the weeks in the semester, she carried herself in 1 professional manner, being diligent, organized, and very competent with respect to planning, teaching, assessing, and reflecting upon her practices. Jessica’s lessons revealed a comprehensive knowledge of the content area of physical science, which was accessible and understandable to all levels of students, and made challenging enough for the students in the inclusion classes which she also taught. Jessica quickly took on the responsibility of lead teacher for the majority of the 6" grade science classes, and students readily accepted her as such. There ‘were several classes of English Language Learner (ELL) and 504 students, and one class period with a special needs student; and she successfully differentiated her lessons to accommodate all students, As her university supervisor, observed her unbiased approach to supporting students at all academic levels. Jessica was always prepared for class, and her unit of study on simple and compound machines and the engineering design process (EDP) seamlessly integrated mathematics, English Language ‘Arts (ELA), and social studies with physical science. Throughout the student teaching period, students were prompted to think about how innovation and technology were helpful to human. advancement in societies. She also encouraged students to think about multiple perspectives and cultures, and how problems are solved in society today. Moreover, Jessica supported students”
