show students its location. (Review)

and who was from the New Netherlands from their previous lesson. Anticipated
Responses: Henry Hudson Verrazano (Assessment of Background Knowledge)
(Anticipatory Set)
4. The teacher will explain to the students that they will be looking at a Prezi presentation to
outline the chapter but will also be reading the lesson in their textbooks together. After
they will be given a set of questions that can also be found in their textbook. They can
start the questions in class but will finish it for homework. They will go over the
questions the following class.
Presentation:
5. The teacher will begin by discussing where New Netherlands is and the people that live
there. She will pull up a map so the students can have a visual in their mind. (Input)
6. The teacher will tell review briefly about their last lesson about explorers who were sent
to find a water route to Asia but came across places in New Jersey. The Teacher will ask
about the Dutch explorer that was sent from New Netherlands and what he came across
on his journey. Anticipated Response: Hudson The Lenape Native Americans New
Jersey (Checking for Understanding)
7. The teacher will pull up a Prezi presentation that reviews the material they will be
reading in their book. This presentation will review what they are going to learn and can
give them a more simple overview on the material. (Input)
8. The teacher will read the first slide since it will be an introduction to the chapter. It
begins where the last chapter left off after Henry Hudsons voyage. (Input)
9. She will pause to ask students what they remember from his voyage and what the
outcome was. Anticipated Responses: He wanted to trade He found the Lenape

on the presentation. (Checking for Understanding)(Input)

chapter. They will continue to open their textbooks to the beginning of the lesson for a
more in depth reading. (Input)
13. The teacher will call on students to read a paragraph at a time in their textbooks. This is
to ensure that all material is being covered and will benefit those students who like to
have the reading in their actual hands. (Checking for Understanding)

14. The teacher will pause to propose some questions and to make sure they remember the
information from the Prezi presentation outline that they had just reviewed. (Checking for
Understanding) (Input)
15. The teacher will tell students that they will be given a handout, with the same questions
that are found in their textbook, with room to write their answers on it. They also have a
fun word search, with vocabulary and important terms, which they can complete after they
finish their questions. They can work on it during class until it is time for math but can
review their responses the following class.

Guided Practice:
16. The teacher will handout questions and word search to all students.
17. They can start questions in class and can finish them and the word search for homework,
independently.
18. The questions are short answers and the word search has vocabulary and terms bolded in
text book.
19. The teacher will walk around and see the students progress and will help those who need
help or guidance. If students are struggling she will encourage them to go back to the
text to reread it on their own so they can find evidence for their answers. (Alternative
Strategy)

lesson.

questions to check for students understanding throughout the lesson.
Individual Measurability:Step 19 allows the teacher to check to see which students are struggling
and who might need help. Step 17 allows the students to independently work on the questions.
Summative:Step 25: Once the students understand all of the material and have gone over their
worksheets, they will be tested on the material and vocabulary they have learned.
