End Cruel Testing

by Stephanie Flores

Animals, for many years have

been the primary source for conducting
experiments. They are used to test out all
sorts of things like medicine, cosmetics,
hose hold items, and many other things.
Animal testing is wrong because
animals are mistreated and are forced to
live in bad conditions. An online
physicians committee called The
Animals' Psychological and Social Lives
(2011) talks about of some situations that
animals are put through Animals used in
laboratoriesare not attuned to their
psychological needs and typically
involve considerable sufferinganimals
are often isolated, with little or no social
contact, or are crammed tightly in cages
with too many other animalsprolonged
captivity can lead to abnormal behaviors,
such as aggression and self-injury (para.
2)
When animals are being tested
on, they are not provided with the proper
treatment in order to minimize the pain
an animal might feel. An organization
made to fight for animal rights, called
PETA, on one of their online pages, talks
about the sort of treatment animals
experience after researchers have
conducted their experiments after
enduring these terrifying, painful
procedures, animals are then usually
dumped back into a cage without any

painkillers (para.5), no experiment, no

matter how painful or trivial, is
prohibited and pain-killers are not
required (Humane Society. n.d., para.3).
Even after millions of
experiments are conducted, in the end
they only make the animal suffer in vein.
Out of the many test that are conducted
only a few produce positive outcomes,
most of them are failures because they
either dont produce positive results or
what seemed to work on an animal does
not work for humans at all. In an article
by Knight (2011), he feels that the results
for animal testings regarding products
that are later used by humans, have
actually been harming humans and he
even questions the usefulness of these
experiments thousands of patients
harmed by pharmaceuticals developed
using animal tests How useful are such
experiments in advancing human
healthcare? (para. 6).
Even though several different
types of alternatives are available,
animals are still being used because they
are cheap and easy to reproduce in large
numbers. There are nearly 50 different
alternative methods and testing strategies
have been developed, validated and/or
accepted by international regulatory
authorities (Humane Society n.d.
para.8).

Several other countries in the

world have already began to ban the use
of animal tested products in order to
help aid in the complete halt on animal
testing. The united sated is one of the
countries that still allows animal testing
to be done and does not put a ban to
animal tested products from being used
and sold in the U.S.
In order to help put a stop to
animal testing, animal tested products
should not be allowed to be sold at
stores. There should also be a halt in the
importation of animal tested products
that come in from other countries.
Companies, research facilities and
anyone who uses animals for testing

should be required to use alternatives

most of the time, causing to gradually
lead to the complete stop of animal
usage for experiments.
Some ways that citizens can help
stop animal testing is by not buying
products that have been tested on
animals in order to make the ones who
test on animals to lose profit and close
down. Another way to help stop animal
testing is by doing protest, signing
petitions, and spreading the word on
what a terrible and wrong thing animal
testing in order to create a national
outcry for the ban of animal testing.
