or similar characters (e.g., in books from a series)

Daily Lesson Objective: The students will compare and contrast the theme,
setting, and plot in two stories written by the same author.
Performance: Students will read the text and write the gist of the stories and key
details down on their paper. They should understand what the text they are
reading is about and how to determine what the main ideas and key details are in
the text.
Condition: Students will be able to talk with one another in order to determine
what the main idea and key details are in the text they read. If they need help to
know exactly what a main idea or detail is then they can use resources to help
them.
Criteria: Students will have to answer questions that relates to the theme, setting,
and plot of each story- comparing and contrasting the two. Students will get full
credit (5/5) if they correctly answer these questions on their worksheet.

Student/Small Group Modifications/Accommodations:
The students will be placed according to their level of ability. Students who have a
learning disability will be given more time, fewer tasks, or can work one on one
with the teacher or another classmate. The teacher will allow students to work
alone if they can't work with others. These modifications can be added to and
changed at any given time, as necessary.

Materials/Technology: Worksheet for each student that has the two passages and
questions, Venn diagram, pencils, etc.

Reflection on lesson: Overall, I feel that this lesson was very successful because
most students were able to compare and contrast the two passages and find the
theme, plot, and settings without using any resources. Each student showed prior
knowledge and understanding of the objective, and as they continue to practice
this task, they will master the objective each time. This lesson went very well, and I
feel that not only did the students learn, but I learned from them as well.
