Position

Education is constantly changing. Our society is developing and

progressing everyday. New technologies are created, enhanced, and
developed. Technology can improve our lives in many ways, with
greener technology, advancements in healthcare, and enhancing
education. Education can be greatly enhanced by the integration of
technology in the classroom.
There are three main learner types, the Visual Learner, the Auditory
Learner, and the Kinesthetic Learner. The Visual Learner makes up
about 40-60% of the population. They learn well from educators who
use visual aids. The Auditory Learner makes up about 30-40% of the
population. They learn best by listen and conversations. Kinesthetic
Learners make up about 5-25% of the population. They learn best by
doing hands on and practical application. Having such a diverse
population of students using only one style of learner will only reach a
few students.
Technology increases the depth of learning and builds cognitive skills.
Blooms Taxonomy that explains how using the three main objectives:
Cognitive, Affective, and Psychomotor. These objectives when
combined create a more complete form of education. When using his
model starting at the bottom and moving through to the top, builds on
each idea. The order presented goes as follows: Remembering,

Understanding, Applying, Analyzing, Evaluating, and Creating. When

implementing these objectives a wider audience will be taught, a more
complete understanding will be achieved. To accomplish this task using
technology is a way to open the door for creativity, analytical thinking,
and problem solving.
The Appalachia Regional Comprehensive Center put out a PDF on the
significance of effective technology integration. They wrote that,
Twelve states participate in the Enhancing Missouris Instructional
Networked Teaching Strategies (eMINTS), which facilitates technology
integration through inquiry-based teaching, collaborative teacher
professional development and lesson planning, and deliberate
alignment of curriculum and instruction with relevant technology. A
summary of 10 years of evaluation finds that intermediate elementary
students in eMINTS classes consistently outperform their peers in noneMINTS classes on state achievement assessments of reading and
mathematics.10 Moreover, these effects are especially strong for the
most disadvantaged pupils impoverished, minority, Limited English
Proficient, and special education students, and those attending Title I
schools. This study shows over an extended period of time that
students who are offered a technology enriched learning environment
will be more successful. This study also shows that integrating
technology in the classroom will reach a wide variety of students.

I do feel that technology does need to be use in the classroom. There

are very few jobs out there now that do not use some form of
technology. The time it takes for students to complete their education
and move on to higher education. The technology will have changed
drastically. Teaching students from the time they begin school will help
them to be more efficient and be prepared for what their future will
hold.

Identification of Standards

The standards that have been set for education are set at
district, State and National level. Clark County has set the standards
with specific and detailed instructions for schools. The state has also
provided instruction at a more broad scope and the National level is
quite broad. The state of Nevada implemented the common core
structure back in 2010 and focus on English Language Arts, and
Mathematics. The standards all complement each other and are built
upon each other. The National level has set the benchmark for states,
than the states set the benchmark to districts and finally the districts
set the courses to meet each of the benchmarks. A focus for this

project is meeting the needs for fourth graders by using technology in

integrated with language and grammar. The district has set a standard
of what fourth graders would need to be instructed on throughout the
school year. Students should form and use prepositional phrases.
Students should use multimedia and create documents using text, and
graphics. Preparing a lesson plan that includes these elements will
help to teach the students in a well-rounded manner.

Combining

Language Arts and Technology will enhance the subject and help to
instill the grammar in the students. This project will also combine
group work that will teach students to problem solve and work as a
team. They will need to organize and put together their material. The
project will incorporate innovation and allow the students to develop
their creativity.

same for each sentence, the objects will be different for
each sentence. For example: The cat is below the table.
The cat is in the trash bin. The cat is across the room. The
cat is through the doorway. The cat is on the beanbag.)

o Once the students have completed their sentences and

you have reviewed them offering any help needed. The
students will than use a computer to create a slide slow
using power point.
o The format should look like this:

o The students will need to create 5 slides. They should use

clip art to search for there objects (help as needed). To
insert clip art select the insert tab, at the top left. Go down
and select clip art gallery. This will open a new window and
give the students more options.
o Once the students have the images they need have them
click and drag the image into the blank slide. They may
need to adjust the size by selecting a corner and clicking
and dragging. They may also need to move the clip by
placing the mouse over the image and clicking and
dragging.
o Once the images are set the students will need to select
the Text box, and input there sentence. Once this is
complete they will select a new slide and do the same for
that slide.
o Once all the slides are made there should be 5
prepositional phrases and images. Have the students
make one extra slide with there names. Have them save
the file by selecting the file tab at the top left. Drop down
to save as. Have the students save as Group1, Group2 ect.
The format should be PowerPoint Presentation, and save to
the classroom folder.
o These PowerPoint presentations will be combined and we
will use them in class as review.
