Computer and Potential for Learning
Do our kids use the computers and Internet in the right way of how we need it?
Nowadays every single house or place has a computer inside it, but everyone is using it
differently such as, for games, work or study. A lot of colleges and universities demand their
students to use Internet and computers to do their work or research, and they actually provide the
computers for them even though the students have one. However, the idea that just the
universities use the computers is changing because now kids are using the computers at very
young age, and it allows them to learn like the students in the universities. Computers are very
important if we teach our kids how to use it for their studies and their lives. Both computers and
Internet could increase the childrens ability to learn and study in the elementary schools by
visual tools, e-tutors and e-books.
Although some schools are still using boards for teaching the elementary scholars, now
visual tools are better way to teach the children. According to the article An academic
experiment on the use of computers in elementary school mathematics classrooms that
computers are promised effective visual tools to promote independent work and study. Using
both interpersonal and video observation, I completed written evaluations of each pair of my
students' will and ability to cooperate, independently solve mathematical problems

(Ladel, Silke). If each student uses the computer to solve math problems, do the homework or
even research information, they will be able to study easier for the future, and to study alone with
any fear from the tests. One of the best visual tools is a projector, which is big screen shows a
single computer and controlled by the teacher, because projectors display pictures or videos that
entertain and teach the scholars in the same time. They will look at it like the TV or cartoons if
the teacher knows how to relate the lesson and what he or she shows to the children. In addition,
they could see videos on the projector by the computer about their lessons, and it could make
them memorize the lesson more effectively than just watching the words and numbers on the
board. Should Kids in Primary Grades Use Computers? an article by Linda Starr from the
education world states No one can afford to take all his or her students to Africa. But computers
let them go there, learn about it, and experience it in a way no other medium can(Linda, Starr).
Basically it talks about how computer and the visual tools can make the student see and hear
where they want to help them to understand their lessons. On the other hand, kids could have the
same lessons that they get in their school in their homes without any movement or effort by the
computer.
Tutoring is changing in this last years because they are looking for the best way to help
the student learn more and to be successfully, and the e-tutors are the new revolution for tutoring
in our current time. In the article Technology education students: e-tutors for school children
by Genevieve Marie Johnson from Department of Computing Science and Technology declares
Electronic tutoring (E-tutoring) or Internet tutoring (I-tutoring) refers to individualised learning
support provided via the Internet, and he also mentions that This study describes TE students
with school children in need of supplementary instructional support for the purpose of e-tutoring
include websites, email which included evaluation of the initiative, video conferences and

blogs. (Johnson) The e-tutors are very important for the kids, so they can study more because
they are still kids and they are focusing in something else like playing. They will force them to
study for a specific time, review and memorize what they took at school everyday, which could
help them to increase their grades to be better. Additionally, e-tutors could solve the shyness
problem among the students who frightened of talking to their teachers about the lessons, and its
just temporary solution for nervousness. One of my siblings is in the elementary school, and my
parents just found out about the e-tutors. I told them to try out the e-tutor with my brother, and
actually my brothers grades increased since he has studied with the e-tutor, and he said that etutor helped him very well to prepare him for the tests and every thing just behind the computer.
On the other hand, parents could follow up their kids of what they are doing and how they are
studying by communicating with the e-tutor, so they check out if they in the right path or not.
Parents also could check their childrens lessons from the Internet if they are going to help their
kids to study and to be prepared as possible as needed. Using the e-tutors and computers could
help scholars, but also e-books are very helpful for them.
When technology spread out in our generation, why students still holding books and
notes? In the journal Beyond the traditional reading class: The application of an e-Book in EFL
English classroom states that The number of people using e-book reading devices has doubled
in the past year, from 8% to 15%(Yoon, Tecnam). If schools replace the normal books with ebooks for the students, it will be much cheaper for them and less effort. It also easy to access in
any computer without any charges, or it hard to lose like the normal books. They also mention
that the success of an e-book reading and its functionalities, as stated above, can be predicted as
well, in terms of the benefits and advantages that an e-book is holding (Yoon, Tecnam) that

could increase the scholars abilities of learning by reading more and more by any available
computer.
Computers in our time are very helpful that save time and effort for both teachers and
students, and make the young scholars learn more skills for the future. When teacher writes
everyday for the students inside the class on the board, it takes time to write and wait the
students to write it down, and the teacher already has limited time for a class. The teacher could
use the computer to put the lesson on the projector to show it for the students, and then he or she
gives them the lesson by sending it by the Internet or read the e-books. In this way, the teacher
saves time and effort for him, and he could deliver the information successfully. According to the
article Benefits of Technology Education for Children that says Technology will enhance and
add to the learning experience and foster a life-long love of learning so that students can continue
to develop their minds when their formal schooling ends. (Young, Renee). Technology in
general and computer in specific are changing the education or the way we teach and learn
because now from a young age should we should use computers to improve our studies and
skills. It also will help the young scholar in the future to be more ready and prepared for the
university life and for the job after that. In conclusion, visual tools, e-tutors and e-books could
totally make a positive difference in young scholars education.
