Re: STATE OF UTAH VS. FLINT WAYNE HARRISON COUNTY OF DAVIS. ) STATE OF UTAH ) ss. AFFIDAVIT FOR WARRANT OF ARREST Mike Dingman, affiant and detective for the Centerville Police Department, being first duly sworn upon oath, declares and states the following based on an investigation conducted of the matter referred to herein: 1 2. Affiant is a detective with the Centerville Police Department, ‘On or about May 10, 2016, around 1800 hours, in Centerville, Utah, officers responded to 190 North 700 East, Centerville, Utah on an assault cal. Prior to law enforcement’s being dispatched, Derrick James Harrison (“DJ”) and his father Flint Wayne Harrison were at the aforementioned residence. DJ invited Heidi Harkins and her four daughters Bryce Joe Harkins (18), J.H. (17), ELH. (15), and B.H. (13) to the house for a barbeque. They arrived sometime between 1700 and 1800 hours. After entering the residence, Flint and DJ invited them to go downstairs. The five females and two males went downstairs. The females observed strips of duct tape lined up and zip ties on the floor. DJ entered the room carrying a long gun. He pointed the gun at the five females, instructing theme to get on the ground. The females did not take this seriously at first and went back upstairs. Once upstairs, Flint, carrying a bat, forced the five females back downstairs, prodding or jabbing them with the bat. They confiscated two of the females’ phones. Once back downstairs, both DJ and Flint ordered them to their knees. The females complied and Flint took zip ties and bound all five females’ hands behind their backs and also bound their feet. Flint placed duct tape on Heidi’s mouth and put a bag over her head. 8, All the females began trying to flee, breaking the zip ties. DJ blocked the five females in, holding the gun. Flint grabbed Heidi, holding the bat to her throat. They fought and he struck her in the head and side, causing a laceration and bruising. Flint choked J.H., pinning her to the wall, and took the phone she had hidden, 9. B.H. and E.H, fled into a closed garaged and were chased by Flint. One girl tried to call 911, but Flint took the phone from her. The girls made their way back into the home, trying to enclose Flint. 10. Flint then grabbed the gun and pointed it at B.H.’s throat and threatening her. B.H. slapped the gun away and ran toward the stairs, being chased. J.H., also trying to escape, got ahold of the bat and struck DJ at the stairs. 11. All five females were able to make it out of the house and proceeded to a neighbor's house where they contacted law enforcement. 12, DJ and Flint entered a silver suburban and fled the scene, shortly before law enforcement arrived. 13. A search warrant was executed on the residence and several broken zip ties as well as unused zip ties were found. Used and unused duct tape was found. A shotgun was found and two unfired cartridges were found, one on the floor and one on a desk. Blood was found on a hallway wall. A chunk of hair was found on the stairs. Three cell phones were found. Near the phones, a small baggie with a white crystalline substance that appeared to be methamphetamine was found. 14, As law enforcement conducted its investigation, family members confirmed that both Flint and DJ had been heavily using drugs in the last few days, 15, Officers leamed that Flint and/or DJ may have possession of shotgun with a pistol grip, which was not found at the residence. Flint resides in Wyoming and officers made contact with his current wife. She informed the police that her husband did not want to {g0 back to prison and had made statement that he intended to shoot any officers and go out in a blaze of glory. Flint is a Category I restricted person and a sex offender based on a prior conviction for forcible sex abuse. 16, DJ left his phone at the scene. Flint’s phone continues to go to voicemail and efforts to ping his phone have been unsuccessful. An attempt to locate has been made in Utah and Wyoming. Text messages have been seen from a relative to DJ’s phone wherein the relative states the person will assist in hiding both suspects. Law enforcement has checked all known addresses. Family members state that they have not been able to make contact with the suspects. Information led the police to a Best Westem in North Salt Lake, but they were found to have checked out from that hotel. Family members stated that they may be hiding in the mountains because they have the gear to go deep and hide. 17. A no bail arrest warrant is requested because of the flight of the suspects, the ongoing efforts they are making to avoid apprehension, and the substantial danger they pose to the community and to law enforcement. WHEREFORE, affiant prays that a Warrant of Arrest be issued to best meet the ends of justice. Given under my hand and dated this I! day of May, 2016.
