UWRT 1102, Advocacy Literacy Project Reflection

Please provide a short response to each following question or statement.
1. How did you decided to divide up the contents of your project, the composition verses the visual? Why so? How
is your division important to me for consideration in grading/evaluating your project?

The composition was only a point of departure; the larger emphasis is

the Prezi. The visual gives me greater flexibility in expressing my
narrative, not only in words but also the use of embedded YouTube
videos. As a result, it allows the audience to quickly plug in and
connect -intellectually and emotionally. Division is not a factor thus
there is no need for that consideration.
2. What do you want me to consider as I review your medium choice? If nothing else, tell me about your risk taking.

Please consider my method as a visual storyteller; introduction,

exposition, crisis, conflict narratives, and resolutions. The words
functioned like a movie script and the YouTube videos were my actors
expressing the meaning with in each scene. My intention was to create a
series of dramatic vignettes. The reason for this approach is that I
wanted to avoid presenting the facts in a dry one dimensional manner. It
was important to present this social movement as a living entity.
I never thought my subject was risky; but it does spark a lot of
curiosity whenever I mention it. Maybe its because dying and death is a
subject that a very few of us understand. As a result, its easy to
become fearful and to speak about it is often thought as taboo. The
antidote to this mental discomfort is through education and open
conversations. By learning about death we can learn to live our lives
better.
3. Influence me further as to what to focus most upon during grading: what do you want weighed most in your favor
as I grade your project? Why?

What is most important when grading is not the effectiveness of

persuasion -my intention was not to change minds or win supporters. The
intention is whether or not this project would cause the reader think
about their own lives and values -either for a few minutes or a few days
is not as important as the actual introspection. Does this assignment
invoke empathy with others despite religious standing? Was it helpful by
causing conversation and thought?
4. What would you like to change or to work on more, if you had the chance? Why so?

If I had time at my disposal, instead of a Prezi I would have liked to

have attempt a short stage play in the black box theater.

5. Based upon what you have been assigned, verses what you have completed, what grade does your work justify?
Why?

A B would be fine; I feel the composition was fairly weak but the
visual made up for some of that loss.
