A slam poem I wrote on people who use large words unnecessarily or condescendingly. It didn't land me a win, but people have told me it is pretty creative. Enjoy!

Not a day goes by you cannot hear the condescending voice.
The sound of some desperate individual opening their oral orifice in order to utter some incredibly elaborate multiple syllable synonym for a monotonous idiom. And why? In order to verify their intelligence while elaborating on some inconsequential notion. In order to talk down to the individuals they are around, to put them down and elevate themselves to a seemingly omnipotent status. In order to adumbrate the true motive behind their utterance. Sometimes they use the words wrong. They might say adumbrate when they meant to say obscure.
But they wont admit it.
They saunter about, like disreputable thesauruses, spouting incomprehensible
garble in their ramblings. They interject into conversation with boisterous nonsensicals, all in the name of further aerating their inflated egos. They also complicate their ideas with overtly unnecessary descriptive and dramatic devices, stockpiling them as a squirrel and food for winter, their brains carefully handling each new metaphor and storing it, piecing it together in an order to convey a sense of assonance, rhyme, righteousness, and readability. And what do these people look like? Like any one of us, who also happens to hold subscriptions to word-of-the-day emails, accounts on both Thesaurus and Dictionary.com, and are also contributors to the Wikipedia project in order to further proliferate their surely impeccable knowledge into unsuspecting reports and presentations. They bedevil the individuals surrounding them with incessant chatter on subject matters not needing the exasperating number of elaborate theological or factual contributions. Even their writing does not escape the clutch of their perturbing vice. Even poetry, the genre where surely ideas would be wanted to be conveyed to their target bibliomaniac guilelessly and artfully they feel the compulsion to affix further voluminous vocabulary in order to convey their ideas. This horrendous poetry turns into a monotonous bore to decipher. But feel indebted, as these poems are even a bigger monotonous bore to be listened to.
