What is the topic of the WQ that you are reviewing? Include the weblink.

Topic is Exploring the Regions of France.

2.

Describe the Design as much as possible.

I would say that the design is generic as it includes all the basic parts of a WebQuest
(Introduction, Task, Process, Evaluation, etc.) but the objective is the general exploration, i.e.
learning more about a particular topic, in this case the Regions of France. The design therefore is
a nonspecific and simple guiding of inquiry, so that students will learn more about the Regions of
France and be able to present what they have learned to others.

1.

The design is a template provided by the free WebQuest generator and hosting website
Zunal http://zunal.com/. Each of the standard pages are used, and in a clear and appropriate
way in terms of the content supporting the pages objectives. The Introduction page shows merely a
short introduction to the project, the task page presents the project, the process page provides the
steps to follow, etc.

3.
Describe the Task for the WQ:
The task is to research a specific region of France, with a partner, using the Internet and the
investigative process presented in the webquest document, and then to create a presentation for
the class with the information gathered, and including a quiz to test the comprehension/retention of
their classmates.
4.
What the participants Roles:
The 3rd step outlined on the Process page, after choosing a partner and choosing a region, is to
negotiate the roles you will assume throughout the entire assignment. The possible roles proposed
include, Task Manager, Designer, Reporter etc.
5.
What is the Process for the webquest?
The remaining steps of the process are: 4) Explore the Information 5) Prepare your Presentation
and Quiz and 6) Be Ready to Present using Checklist. The Task page had provided a list of
information that the students should gather, so the 4) stage of the process merely restated that list
with some links at the bottom of possibly helpful sites for inquiring all the information. Each topic
was not accompanied by a specific relevant link, like other webquests I have seen. Students are
basically being told to go out into the Internet and research, as simple as that. Process instructions
state:
Use photos to enhance your presentation.
Your quiz should address the specific information requested in the table.
You may use the links provided and/or any other credible sources of information. (Be sure to
document your sources.)
6.

How will learners be evaluated in this WQ?

Learners are evaluated with a rubric that is provided on the Evaluation page. They are graded on
these categories: Content Mechanics Organization Test and it is further detailed what the
teachers expectations are for each.
7.
Describe how the introduction is engaging to students
The Introduction is not incredibly compelling or special, but it does use some wording that sets up
the task as an adventure. For example, it says, You are about to embark on an exploration of
the captivating regions of France, (my italics). It also seems to aim to motivate students by
describing how the project will make them into experts on a particular region. It also provides a
simple background of Frances regional organization and two supporting informational links, so that
students can immediately get their bearing on the subject at hand.
8.
Describe the conclusion and the credits? Are they satisfactory to you?

The conclusion is very minimal; it merely congratulates the student on having finished and on a job
well done, and then asks them to click a survey monkey link and take a two-question survey on
basically whether they feel they know more after this project. In other words, the conclusion does
not provide any meaningful content-related synthesis for the students or provide links or guidance
for further exploration of the topic.
The credits, listed on the Teacher Page are satisfactory. The author describes the standard to
which the Webquest applies, its aim, and two references.
9.

Are the images appropriate for the WQ? Explain

The images are perfectly appropriate if rather decorative. Each page has an image that surely shows
some place French, but as there are no captions, one is learning little from the photographs, and
they certainly arent incorporated into the task at hand.
10.

Describe how the usability (ease of use) for the WQ? Explain

I feel the tasks objective is very simple and straightforward, so the WQ is actually quite usable. It
resembles a classic research project, but with extra clear and detailed guidance, so no student
should feel lost about what is expected of them, or what they are to do. However, the WQ is not
super interesting or compelling; I do not believe that students will get very engrossed or excited by
the project, so it might be difficult for them to use in that they dont feel compelled to continue
through to the end or apply themselves.
11.

Would you consider using the WebQuests in your classes? Explain why or why not?

I would consider using WQs in my classroom because they are helpful lesson plans already out there
that I may avail myself of. I would be particularly interested in finding and using one that has more
dynamic properties than this one, but if I simply want students to research a region of France, I
would consider using this WQ to have them do so.
