Reflective consultant report


When I realize that most accountants struggle in communicating with their clients, I felt
the best solution in my consultant report in accordance to Cross Appropriation was
establishing a rhetorical writing composition course; obviously some colleges put this in
place but unfortunately not all do. This course helps the young aspiring accountant to
develop or find their own style of writing, and would be beneficial in their personal
community of work. It would help them understand that all rhetorical situations are
different and give them a sense of understanding in the need to adjust their rhetoric for
each one.
I felt that I put in a good case forward in the importance of rhetorical composition course
in relation to an accounting major. I felt the need to understand the terminology in the
rhetorical discourse triangle was essential and did my best in correlating accounting
lanugo with the terminology of lexis, speaker, audience, exigence, and its purpose; and
understanding that each terminology is different for every discourse situation. I try to
help explain that if an accountant is aware that each client situation is different and that
therefore the lexis (language) and exigence (problem) will also be different, than he/she
would have a different purpose for each discourse, and the sooner they understand that
the better interpreter they would be for their client. I felt I succeeded explaining in this
pursuit.
Obviously taking a rhetorical discourse class helped facilitate my writing for this
assignment; and help paved the way in explaining a new thought process when it
comes to rhetorical situations. I would describe this type of writing as philosophical
explanation of what ever discourse situation youre inn and understanding that theyre
different almost every time.
In my final draft I put in a different background analysis and explain the interviews I
conducted with two professors at the University of Texas at El Paso. I felt this was a
better back drop to help explain the reason for my Cross Appropriation for my consultant
report. I also used accounting scenarios as examples in explaining in greater detail of
how the discourse triangle worked, and explain its terminology for the audience it was
intended for which was accounting students. I believe all these changes was effective,
as I said earlier rhetorical discourse terminology is more of philosophical train of thought
and it needs to be explain in greater detail, and since my intended audience is
upcoming accounting students I had to explain the rhetorical discourse triangle with
accounting scenarios to give a better picture.
