The Immigrant
Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincerity, ignorance, and conscientious
stupidity. This song is about how a boy crossed the border when he was 17 years old. It started
talking about how he suffered when he almost died in the river trying to go to United States.
Also, a lot of people discriminated him because they thought that he was a drug trafficker since
he cross the border. However, he only wanted the best future for his family and set aside poverty
by working hard. On the other hand, he indicates in his song how Latinos die, suffer
discrimination, and only want equality, respect and tolerance in this country.
The song started to talk about how immigrants try to cross the border across the river and
these working people someone die in the trajectory of crossing. To be specific, according to the
song, Me quemaban las noches del frio por poquito me hogaba en el rio. A brief description
includes the desert between Arizona and Sonora is a dry place without many sources of water
and biggest temperatures of heat. Additionally, immigrants tried to cross the Bravo River putting
their lives at risk because the river is so deep and water currents are strong. According to the
United States border, almost two thousand people died trying to make their American dream real.
Immigrants only have some options to cross.
When immigrants arrive to United States most of the time they start from zero with a lot
of discrimination, this is what the song explains Piensan que por que brinque la linea soy
narcotraficante ya basta de mil humillaciones nomas por ser inmigrante. Not forgetting the
discrimination, injustice, intolerance, prejudice, and inequity that they suffered only by crossing
the border. For example, many people have a stupid thought of immigrants. For example, that

they steal jobs and sell drugs once they cross the border. However, immigrants work in jobs that
nobody wants because they are hard workers with a difficult minimum salary only to get the best
future for their children and family according to a sentence in the song: Soy uno de tantos
Mexicanos que trabaja dia con dia para darle future a mis hijos y ayudar a mi familia.
Latino discrimination is something that happens every day around the United States. For
that reason, the most meaningful part of the song is,Nos an prometido tantas cosas y no nos an
dado nada, igualdad, respeto, y tolerancia es lo que pide mi raza. We need an immigration
reform in the United States to help the immigrants families to stay together. It is not only for
documentation; they want rights and want to walk with freedom and without the sensation of fear
or racial discrimination from police officers.
In conclusion, immigration is a common topic in our communities that we need to find a
solution for: keeping families together. This song explains that we are here to work hard and get
the best future to our families. Also, we only want respect, equality, and tolerance towards us.
Right now immigrants are judged for their choice to find their American dream and help their
children. Furthermore, the best opportunity and decision is making an immigration act. This will
help a lot of people since we want to be treated as others, with respect and equality.
