Leo Olympic 2016

One of the most awaited day for the
Leos of the district 306 A2 was 3rd of April.
With the collaboration of each and every
club of the district the sports day of the year
for Leos was successfully held at Horana
Taxila Central College grounds.

the climate was not favorable for sports on
that day since it was hot Leos didnt hesitate
to go play in sun. We UoM Leos took part
in several games and won most of them.

Leos took part in games with a great Indeed it was a day to remember for all the
enthusiasm. The event was with number of Leos.
sports such as running events, Basketball,
Netball, Long Jump and much more.
At the end of the day we UoM Leos
Young crowd all over the district had a nice left the ground premises with bunch of
time finding new friends around and the sweet memories in our hearts.


The most beautiful thing in this
world is to see your parents smiling and
knowing that you are the reason behind
those generous smiles. But in todays world
there are so many parents who cry alone
in elders homes because of their children.
These parents have shed their blood and
sweat to raise their children into perfect
personalities in the society having so many
hopes and dreams in their minds. But their
hopes have broken into pieces and now
they are left alone in the world.
Moratumulla Methodist Elders
Home is one such place which is the shelter
for few mothers who are left alone in this
world. Every year, we UoM Leos make
a small effort to bring some light to their
gloomy lives. This time we visited them
on 7th of April 2016. Their happy smiling
faces depicted that they were waiting for
our visitation. For the whole evening they
sang with us, danced with us and shared
their life time stories with us. And also we
had tea and snacks with them. We felt like
we were their saviors, who pulled them up
from their gloomy lonely lives. Seeing their
smiling, lightened up faces we felt sorry,
who on earth can leave such nice mothers
alone in this world like this.

Your parents might not be perfect,
but they are the most precious gift god has
ever given you. Never forget your parents
or leave them behind because you are
ashamed to have them around you. They
are the reason why you are here and who
you are today. So love your parents and
treat them with care. Dont leave them at
elders homes. Because you will only know
their values when you see their empty seats.

Free Blood Sugar Testing

Campaign

Each and every human being on this
earth expects a healthy life. Unfortunately
we all happened to face for the illnesses.
But some of the illnesses can be predicted
before it attacks us. And we can find out the
way to avoid the illnesses before the danger.
As it is said Prevention is better than cure.

A free blood testing program was
organized by UoM leos on 10th April at
Kandy town hall. The residents nearby
participate in campaign in great interest.
Senkadagala Laboratory was conducting
the testing session throughout the day.

Blood sugar leads to various

sicknesses and though it is controlled
under some conditions it may arises time
to time. Any of slight illness can be affected
by the blood pressure and will transpose it
to serious situations. So it is worth to check
up the blood sugar level frequently. Since
those who got check their blood really
appreciated the deed and left with a grateful
smile. We uom leos was really delighted to
launch such a campaign since we were been
a support for the people in need.


There is greenery everywhere, fresh leaves on trees, flowers in bloom, vegetables
and fruits in plenty and the songs of birds in the air. The aroma of sweetmeat, the
sound of raban and the kohas cry, symbolize that the entire country is ready to
celebrate this national festival.According to the Sinhala calendar, Sri Lankans begin
celebrating AluthAvurudu in Sinhala, in the month of Bak when the sun moves
from the MeenaRashiya to the MeshaRashiya. The name Bak is derived from the
Sanskrit word bhagya meaning fortunate.

Beginning of a new year is the ideal time to refresh the mind of everyone
and to fill up the mind with new expectations. As a family, UoM Leos always get
together to share their happy and sad times with the others. In the month Bak, we
organized an awurudu programme to enhance the bondages of all Leos, prospects,
past Leos and Leos from A2 district. This glamorous occasion was held on 10th of
April in Lagaan area of University of Moratuwa with the participation of about fifty
Leos. As customary we arranged awurudu meals for all Leos giving priority for the
rituals. While avurudu customs help to maintain age old traditions and strengthen
bonds, they also play a significant role in promoting community harmony.Whole
the day was filled with happy and joy with the different games such as Kottapora,
Kanamuttibideema,Baniskama, Aliyataasathabima, Lime and spoon, passing
eggs and etc. These games brought fun and joy to our lives and at the same time,
taught us a valuable lesson about team spirit. That day helped us to begin the New
Year with smiles on our faces.

A new year is like a blank book. The pen is in your hands. Its your chance to
write a beautiful story for yourself.

Most of us dont think about the

water we drink. We turn on a tap,
fill a glass, and drink. As we get
well purified water it would not
make huge effect on our health. But
during the last few months, people in
Matara area faced a severe drinking
water problem. That is because of
industrial waste which was disposed
to Nilwala River. Many people used
bottled water. It was hard to find a
way of having a pure water bottle. So
supplying purified water for hospitals
was a huge problem. UOM Leos

initiated in distributing drinking

water bottles among patients of
Kamburugamuwa hospital, Matara
on 11th of April. We distributed the
water bottles for them with a snack.
It was a great relief for them to have
pure water bottle at that time. The
effort of UOM Leos was appreciated
by everyone.

Aim Strikerz

Carom is an interesting and highly accessible indoor family game due to its
simplicity and portability. A carom tournament Aim strikers was held on 23rd
of April, which is organized by Leos of Leo Multiple district 306. Leo club of
Baddegama , Leo club of Battaramulla Synergy , Leo club of Ingiriya United, Leo
club of Katuwawala , Leo club of Unawatuna Diamond stars, Leo club of Gampaha
Metro, Leo club of Piliyandala and Leo club of University of Moratuwa joined their
hands together in this great event. Liberty International pre-school of piliyandala
was full of team participants from various Leo clubs of the multiple district 306.
Aim of every one was to win, so the day was very competitive. But at end of the day,
everyone said that it was a funny Saturday with Leo families of Sri Lanka.

Blood Donation

If you donate money,

You can give food...
But if you donate blood,
You give life...

As humans, we all love for long life.
But we hear many tragic stories in our day
today life. But many deaths can be avoided
if they receive correct blood type in those
incidents. So blood donation is such a
worthy case which can save millions of
peoples life. Blood donation is a voluntary
procedure. If you agree to have blood
drawn, then it can be given to someone
who needs a blood transfusion. Millions of
people need blood transfusions each year.
Some may need blood during surgery.
Others depend on it after an accident or
because they have a disease that requires
blood components. Blood donation makes
all of this possible.

This valuable service was done by
UoM Leos on 27th of April at Old gym of
University of Moratuwa. Large number of
students got together their hand to make
this event a successful one. Many students
who have the sensitivity towards other
human beings came to donate their blood.
Humanity was well embossed in that
project because without a good heart they
would never tend to do this generous work.

If you are a blood donor, you are
a hero to someone, somewhere, who
received your gracious gift of life. If you give
blood you give another birthday, another
anniversary, another day at the beach,
another night under the stars, another talk
with a friend, another laugh, another hug
and another chance. Be a hero and save a
life.

According to the Greek and

Roman mythology, the month of April
is depicted as the Aphrodites month
The month of goddess of love and
beauty. But in our small island, the
month of April is called the month of
Bak, all Sinhalese and Hindus celebrate
the Sinhala and Hindu Aluth Aurudda
over a long period of time.
Aluth Aurudda is all about
bringing the prosperous good thoughts
to everyones minds. But unfortunately,
the new generation is not very much
interested in these traditions. On the
other hand, as the youth it is our duty to
teach the traditions to our juniors.

So as a step to fulfill the duty, UoM

Leos celebrated the Aluth Aurudda with

the children at the Sumudu Montessori
on 29th of April. It was one of rare
moment of children and youth having
fun together. One of the Leo members
said that all those moments with
children brought back the memories of
childhood. For children it was a great
moments to learn traditional values in a
much happier way.

A lot of Aluth Aurudu games were
arranged and with the help of teachers,
Leos were able to give a great time for the
children. In most of Aurudu festivals, the
youth is mainly targeted. But in here the
youth is targeted the children. So again
ITS US - Leos who do the change.

Education is a gift

that none can take away

Every child in this world has the
right to get a proper education. But if
we think for few seconds, do you really
think children in the rural areas have the
capability to get the proper education as
we do. The main issue in rural areas is,
the children do not have the proper mind
set to get a good education due to several
issues they have to face in their lives. It is
said that nine tenths of education is the
encouragement. So it is the mindset that
we have to change within those children

and give the encouragement for them to

get educated.

So as UoM Leos, we conducted
another seminar under our continuous
project Api Akurata Meli Nowemu in
the name of Ganan Seethalata. This was
the 9th phase of this seminar series. This
time the selected venue was B/Welimada
Central College and it was held on
6th of May. We were able to conduct
a mathematics seminar for about 400
students. A model math paper was given
to those students and discussed it with
them. It was a successful session where
we were able to give our best for those
students.

There is a saying Your life will become
better by making other lives better. As UoM Leos
we always try to give that message to the society.
Through ITS US editions we have presented you
such great community service projects carried out
by UoM Leos. So here we are proudly presenting
the 10th issue of ITS US the official newsletter of
UoM Leos.

This issue is a combination of April and
May which consists with LEO EKKA AURUDU,
PAWASA, Aim Strikerz and annual blood donation
campaign. And it contains about the most colourful
event organized by UoM Leos for this leostic year
Glanz 2016.

By now we have reached to the end of another
leoistic year. But the good work carried out by leos
does not limit just to a year but it is a life time deed.
