0 Company Background
International e-Cash is a basic, useful, and secure approach to send and acquire cash
among organizations and people around the world. It offers money exchange service to its
customers as well. The devices that can be used by this technology are mobile devices. Such
as smartphones, laptops and tablets. The companys headquarter is located at KLCC in Kuala
Lumpur while the others branches are located at Pavilion and Fahrenheit 88. The company
has around 100 employee in headquarter and about 50 in the branch. The distance between
two branches are 650 metre and with the headquarter are 2.2 km for Pavilion and 2.4 km for
Fahrenheit 88. The branches and headquarter are located at Kuala Lumpur is because this can
ensure that the branches can receive or send the information to headquarter faster and easier.

3.0 Scope of the company

Scope of the company mainly provides money exchange service to customer.
This services provided using the mobile devices connected to the wireless that
provided at company. By using the technology of the wireless, customer having the
same rate that been set according to the Headquarter. In the meantime, this services can
drastically reduce the customer had to wait for the turn. As only the customer having the
connection that provided by the company, customer can directly make the money exchange
service using its owner bank provider services. Besides that, helps or guidance are also

provided on the spot for those customers who need help. International e-Cashs target is
the customer who around 21 years old and above that have a stable income. The reason that
the company is using wireless network is because it is more convenient and it allow the
branches to communicate with headquarter easily without using cable. The standard that the
company uses is 802.16E.

4.0 Limitation
Within the company, there are also some limitation that causes them for unable to
fulfil the customer request. So, one of the limitation is the transactions are unable to make in
the phone. The transaction through phone is unable to carry out because there are still a lot of
problems for the transaction through phone. One of the main reason is because of the
security. The security for the phone is not as strong as the computer and the company will not
use this unsecure way to implements the transaction in order to avoid the case of scam.
The second point is limited range. Since the company is using the wireless network,
so there will be a limited range for the signal. If the users are out of the range, there might
unable to connect to the network or will be suffer for slow network due to the low signal.
Moreover, the wireless might be easily affected by several of factor. One of the factors
is interference. The interference like wall can easily affect the signal of the wireless hence
causes the users cannot use the full speed of internet. Besides that, interference that releases
by the electronic devices like computer, phone and so on, can be also one of the interference
to the signal. In this case, the site survey and interference detect need to be done to overcome
this problem.

Site Survey

The first step of installing a Wireless network is to do a radio frequency site survey. It
is the most important step to certify desired process. Site surveying is a job-by-job procedure
where by the inspector inspects the facility to understand the behaviors of the radio
frequency, to determine the radio frequency coverage areas, to check for radio frequency
interference

and

determines

the

suitable

placement

for

the

Wireless

devices.

Site surveying is mandatory because many issues in a wireless network may arise
which can prevent the radio frequency signals from reaching all parts of the facility.
Examples of issues that may occur is multipath distortions, hidden node problems and near or
far issues. To solve the problem, the person in charge needs to find the areas where these
issues are occurring. This is where site surveying helps, it helps to discover regions where
multipath distortions can occur, areas where radio frequency interference is high and find
solutions to abolish such problems. (http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wirelessmobility/wireless-lan-wlan/68666-wireless-site-survey-faq.html#qa1) In a nut shell, site
surveying eases the life of a firm to prevent wireless network related problems and much
more.
Before setting up a wireless network for International E-Cash, there are a few aspects
that needs to be taken into attention. Such as, a genuine license, a proper wireless standard,
interference and suitable location. After all the aspects are taken into consideration, then only
it is safe to set up a wireless network.
The team did some site survey around Kuala Lumpur to choose the two branches and
the headquarters. A few considerations have been made and later on will be compared and the
best will be chosen. Later on, the team also considered some software and hardware to be
used on the site. Lastly, the team has a few wireless network standards to be chosen from.
After all the comparison has been made, the best will be chosen for International E-Cash.

License
In order to establish a WiMAX standard wireless network for International E-Cash,
they would need a class license that is available for download at the Malaysian
Communications and Multimedia Commissions website.
Moreover, registration of a class license is valid for one calendar year only. Prior to
the expiry of the same, International E-Cash must submit a fresh application to the Malaysian
Communications and Multimedia Commission together with the relevant fees and
documents. (http://www.skmm.gov.my/Sectors/Broadband/Types-Of-Licenses-ApplicationProcedures.aspx) To obtain the class license, certain criterias must meet. Such as:
A duplicate copy of the Registration Notice (Form D)
Certified copies of relevant documents in support of the legal status of applicant
A fee of RM2,500 to be paid
Organisation profile
A proposal on the facilities/services
To include a company stamp next to the signature of applicant in the Form D
Each page of annexure should be initialled by the signatory
Source:
on_2015.pdf)

It is important for International E-Cash to have proper licensing and documentation to

avoid being fined. Other than to avoid being fined, having a license is crucial because it gives
the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission details about International ECashs company. For example, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission
would have details about International E-Cashs address, class license number, type of
company, what does the company do and more. If all the necessities are met and proper legal
documents have been provided, International E-Cash will receive the license with no
complications. It is highly recommended for every company to go through a licensing process
before starting up any business company. Below are the documents for licensing taken from
the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission website:-

Wireless Standard
Wireless standard is different methods and standards of wireless communication
based on various requirements. These technologies can be classified into four individual
categories,

based

on

their

specific

application

and

transmission

range.

(http://www.rfidc.com/docs/introductiontowireless_standards.htm) For example, the Personal

Area Network (PAN) uses Bluetooth as the standard, Local Area Network (LAN) uses the
LAN 802.11 standard and Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) uses WiMAX 802.16 standard.
Below is a figure showing a summarised detail for each area network.

Figure 1:
Source: (http://www.rfidc.com/docs/introductiontowireless_standards.htm)

International E-Cashs network have to be distributed across the city so the

headquarters and the branches can communication with each other, because of that, the
wireless network should be a Metropolitan Area Network. So, to provide the best wireless
network coverage for International E-Cash, the most appropriate standard would be using
WiMAX. WiMAX is short for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access.
(http://compnetworking.about.com/od/wirelessinternet/g/bldef_wimax.htm) There are several
WiMAX standards that can be implemented for International E-Cash which are the 802.16
standard which is one of the first standards, 802.16-2004 which is an upgraded version of the
802.16 and 802.16e-2005 one of the latest standards.

Source:
MAX.pdf)
Based on the figure above, we can see that the 802.16e-2005 standard is the latest
standard which means it is more up to date. 802.16 does not provide Orthogonal FrequencyDivision Multiplexing (OFDM) and Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiple Access
(OFDMA) where by 802.16-2004 and 802.16e provides it. Although 802.16-2004 provides
OFDM and OFDMA but it is not scalable where by 802.16e is easily scalable bandwidth and
has better immunity to interference and channel fading. 802.16e also has full mobility and
supports hands off which enables the mobile station to switch from one base station to
another

at

vehicular

speeds

without

interrupting

the

connection.

(http://www.cs.tut.fi/kurssit/TLT-6556/Slides/3-802.16e.pdf) Mobile WiMAX would be

appropriate for International E-Cash. Even though the frequency range of Mobile WiMAX is
shorter but it would be more effective when it is applied to International E-Cash. In addition,
802.16e also supports all of the antenna mechanisms mentioned in the 802.16d standards
such as the Advanced Antenna System (AAS) and Space Time Block Codes (STBC). In
802.16e it has been a focus area to the enhance MIMO implementation to improve data
transmission rates without acquiring the signal-to-noise ratio error that other MIMO

configurations

a

128-bit

encryption key mode based on the Advanced Encryption Standards (AES) has been
implemented. The supported AES mode from 802.16e now blocks man-in-the-middle attacks
because it supports both Base Station-to-user and user-to-Base Station verification to make
sure that the main-in-the-middle cannot impersonate the base station which the 802.16 and
802.16d

is

lacking.

Furthermore, the 802.16e has a better power management compared to the 802.16d.
Moreover, it has a new mode introduced is are the sleep-mode and the wake-mode where a
mobile subscriber station can go to a sleep-mode after negations and temporarily wake up to
check whether there is a downlink so it can decide to go on wake-mode or continue in the
sleep-mode

which

the

802.16

and

802.16d

does

not

have.

Recommendation based on the comparison above, it is clear that the best standard for
International E-Cash is 802.16e with a frequency of 3.5 GHz. Besides, 802.16e is just a better
and a stable version among the 802.16 and 802.16, so, it would make no sense to choose a
lower ended version rather than a higher and upgraded version.

Location
Location is a crucial part for International E-Cash because the headquarters and two
of its branches should be located at shopping malls. There are quite a number of shopping
malls in Kuala Lumpur to choose from. The location that was chosen so far is the Kuala
Lumpur convention centre (KLCC) for the, Pavilion, Fahrenheit 88 and 1 Utama. These
places are chosen because it is one of the most happening places in Kuala Lumpur.

From the table above, it shows that KLCC, Pavilion and Fahrenhiet has a moderate
amount of physical surroundings compared to 1 Utama that has many physical surroundings.
Moreover, 1 Utama is 5 million square feet which is bigger with KLCC, Pavilion and
Fahrenhiet combined. This is a slight disadvantage because the wireless network has to cover
over 5 million square feet of ground for 1 Utama. KLCC has been chosen as the potential
headquarters from the other 3 shopping malls because of its strategic location. Furthermore, it
has moderate physical surroundings which affects the performance and the coverage of the
WiMAX networks. Besides, KLCC is known for the main tourist attraction which could lead
International E-Cash to grow bigger. In addition, the three branches are Pavilion, Fahrenheit
88 and 1 Utama. These three shopping malls have been chosen to be the potential branches
not only because it is one of the most popular shopping malls but also because it has a better
potential to be suitable branches because of the geographical location. Besides, these places
are one of the main attraction for Kuala Lumpur. From these 3 location, 2 locations needs to
be chosen as the branches for International E-Cash.
Recommendation KLCC has been chosen for the headquarters for International ECash because of its geographical location. Moreover, the branches that are chosen is Pavilion
and Fahrenhiet88. These two were chosen because of its moderate physical surroundings and
smaller square feet compared to 1 Utama which has a higher physical surrounding and bigger
square feet. Not only that, it also is a hindrance for the wireless network which needs to cover

up to 5 million square feet whereas for Pavilion and Fahrenhiet88 only has to cover 1.67
million square feet combined.

Interference
Anything related to radio frequencies will always have interference, including the

standard for the International E-Cash. Radio frequencies interference can be vary from radio
frequencies from satellites up to military networks. To make sure these type of interferences
does not happen, proper hardware and software is needed. Most common hardware is a
spectrum analyser and a site survey software for the software needed.

Software
The software that was chosen to compare for site surveying International E-Cash is

From the table above, it shows that DragNet Mobile WiMAX Site Survey Software is
best compatible with WiMAX 802.16e which is the standard of International E-Cash. Besides
that, the software can be converted into KML files so it can be used in different application
such as Google Earth which the YellowFin Fixed WiMAX Remote Manager Software cannot
do. This is a downside for the YellowFin Fixed WiMAX Remote Manager Software because
Google Earth is a free software and is very helpful in the site surveying process, where it
eases the process of the site surveying by just using the software to check the surroundings
rather than buying an external software for the same purpose. Moreover, DragNet Mobile
WiMAX Site Survey Software has a GPS positioning feature can be used to collect data in
current time outdoor site surveys where by the YellowFin Fixed WiMAX Remote Manager
Software has no such feature. Furthermore, the DragNet Mobile WiMAX Site Survey
Software can be said as the perfect software for 802.16 standards which the is the
International E-cash standard where by the YellowFin Fixed WiMAX Remote Manager

Software requires an additional hardware which is the YellowFin WiMAX Analyzer, to make
it work better. In addition, the DragNet Mobile WiMAX Site Survey Software is actually a
later and better version compared to the YellowFin Fixed WiMAX Remote Manager Software
which is an early and non-updated version which lacks a lot of advance features such as a
GPS system, compatibility with other software and many more.

Recommendation From the analysis above, it is clear that the DragNet Mobile WiMAX Site
Survey Software is the obvious choice. Not only it matches the International E-Cash
standard, it also has better features and better compatibility. It is also a more updated version
that the YellowFin Fixed WiMAX Remote Manager Software. Besides, the YellowFin Fixed
WiMAX Remote Manager Software would be required to spend more money where it works
better with an external hardware compared to the DragNet Mobile WiMAX Site Survey
Software which does not require any external hardwares.

From the table above, it shows that the YellowFin Mobile WiMAX Analyser has a
feature of analysing WiMAX 802.16e packets which is the WiMAX standard of the
International E-Cash. Moreover, the YellowFin Mobile WiMAX Analyser can find Radio
Frequency directions by using an optional antenna. It also has true multipath measurements
which the Spectrum Master MS2713E is lacking of. Furthermore, the YellowFin Mobile
WiMAX Analyser can be used with an optional software which is the DragNet Mobile
WiMAX Site Survey Software, for site survey mapping coverage. This is highly convenient
for International E-Cash because, the company is using DragNet Mobile WiMAX Site Survey
Software for the site surveying software which the YellowFin Mobile WiMAX Analyser
supports. Economically, the YellowFin Mobile WiMAX Analyser is cheaper compared to the
Spectrum Master MS2713E by a few thousands. In general, the YellowFin Mobile WiMAX
Analyser has more features compared to the Spectrum Master MS2713E.
Recommendation From the analysis above, the YellowFin Mobile WiMAX Analyser
is the recommended hardware for International E-Cash. The hardware has better and more
features compared to the Spectrum Master MS2713E. Moreover, the YellowFin Mobile
WiMAX Analyser is also much cheaper than the Spectrum Master MS2713E. Overall, the
YellowFin Mobile WiMAX Analyser is the best choice for International E-Cash.

Monitoring
Monitoring refers to an observation and recording the process of activities which take place
in business, network, and project or programme to collect important data or information
(Bartle, n.d.). This can helps the company to keep track on the network, hardware and so on
to get the latest data and information. So, there are some elements which should be
monitoring like network performance, spectrum, hardware and software and interference.
1. Spectrum
Seem the International E-cash company is using the wireless network, so the signal
and frequency are the one that are responsible to transmit the data between the
branches and headquarter. So, it is very important that the signal and frequency need
to be monitor and observe in order to have a high quality of service. By using the
spectrum analyzer, the spectrum can be monitor and able to observe the changes of
signal and frequency. Spectrum analyzer is a tool that used to analyse the frequency
spectrum of radio frequency within a company (Poole, n.d.). It is used for the purpose
of determine whether the wireless transmitter is functioning as it needs to.
(http://searchnetworking.techtarget.com/definition/spectrum-analyzer) The spectrum
allow the users to measures the channel that the spectrum occupied, detect the
interference, traces the frequency that hit the peak and so on.
2. Network Performance (failure)
Besides the spectrum, the network is also an important things that needs to be
monitor. Failure of manage a network can occur a slow or failing network and causes
poor performance (Downing, 2013). In order to monitor a network, the company can
use the network management software to monitor their network. The network
management able to detect which devices are connected to the network, monitoring
the network device, performance and so on.

3. Interference
Interference seems to be a big problem for the company seem the wireless network is
been used by the company. The interference like electromagnetic interference can
easily affect the signal and the frequency thus causes low signal and frequency. So,
the company can use the spectrum analyzer to detect where the interference come
from. The company can also install software and use it along with spectrum analyzer
to have a more details information.
4. Hardware
Hardware that connected to the companys network must be monitored also. It is
because if one of the network devices is broken, it might affect the whole network
performance. By monitoring the devices, the company able to know the health and the
performance of the devices (SolarWinds, n.d.).

Spectrum Analyzer
YellowFin Mobile WIMAX Analyzer
YellowFin Mobile WIMAX Analyzer is the worlds first WIMAX test receiver that are truly
portable measured and demodulating (System, 2015). The handheld units interface is used
the Samsung Q1 Ultra-Premium tablet UMPC and combine with Berkeleys precision

The biggest difference between the Yellow Fin and the Bumble bee tablet is the
standard that the spectrum analyzer supported. Yellow Fin is the spectrum analyzer which
designed specific to measures the WIMAX 802.16e standard while the Tablet is able to
support Wi-Fi, WIMAX, and others. Besides that, the Yellow Fin able to cover most of the
WIMAX frequency bands while the tablet only able to cover the frequency from 2.4
2.9MHz and 4.9-5.9MHz.
For the features, both of them having most of the same features like peak search, user
selectable triggers and so on. But there is some features that are slightly different between
both of them, which is the WIMAX feature. Yellow Fin come with the features which specific
on WIMAX like WIMAX spectrum analysis that allows the users to scans the spectrum more
accurately.
For the price, the Yellow Fin has higher price compare to Bumble Bee tablet because
of its specification on the WIMAX.

Recommendation
For spectrum analyzer, the Yellow Fin Mobile WIMAX Analyzer is more suitable
for the International e-cash company than the Bumble-Bee Tablet. The main reason that the
Yellow Fin Mobile WIMAX Analyser is picked is because the standard that this analyser is
specific to only 802.16e. Although the Bumble-Bee tablet can support WIMAX, but Yellow
Fin is more suitable for International e-cash because it is aim for 802.16e and also the
features are targeted on the WIMAX example like WIMAX 802.16e Packet Analysis and
WIMAX spectrum analysis which allows the users to monitor more accurate on WIMAX.
In order to select a spectrum analyzer, there are few point like frequency coverage
need to be taken to select a spectrum analyzer that suit for the company (Poole, n.d.). The
frequency coverage is the basic requirement when determining whether a spectrum analyzer
is suitable for the company because it is important to determine the maximum frequencies
that need to be monitored (Poole, n.d.). In this case, the Yellow Fin has better advantage
because of its frequency coverage is suitable for WIMAX (Poole, n.d.). Although the Yellow
Fin Mobile WIMAX Analyzer price is more expensive than the Bumble-Bee Ex but it is
worth enough because of its specification on WIMAX 802.16e which are better than the
Bumble-Bee tablet and able maximize the potential of the growth of the company.
For the software, the recommended software for monitoring is OpManager. The
reason that this software is chosen because the features it is more suitable for the company as
it cover the elements or equipment that needed to be monitored and it has more advanced
features than the Solar Winds. Example the OpManagers network management consists of
others features like device health monitoring, network configuration, VoIP monitoring,
network mapping and availability and uptime monitoring. Besides that, in each of the features
stated above, it has others sub features as well like the availability and uptime monitoring,
able to monitor the entire network for its uptime and monitoring every elements in the
network.
Although Solar Winds is cheaper than OpManager, but OpManager has many other
function beside network performance monitoring like server management, fault management

and data centre management. With these features, the company reduce the cost of purchase
other management software.

Maintenance
Maintenance seems to be very important activities that service function to provide an efficient
of production system. It involves the process of finding error in any equipment or system and
solve the problem. It can be happen before the equipment broken or after broken.
International E-cash is a company that used varies of hardware and software or system and
these hardware and system should be doing maintenance in order to function properly. There
are three type of maintenance that the company can use - preventive maintenance,
corrective maintenance and predictive maintenance.
1. Preventive Maintenance
Preventive Maintenance refers to the planned maintenance which designed to enhance
the life of an equipment and prevent any failure to occur in an equipment (Worsham,
n.d.). The purpose of this maintenance is to minimize the potential of breakdowns
(Worsham, n.d.). This maintenance is done while the equipment still functioning to
prevent it breaks down suddenly. These are the technique that the company can use:
A. Establish a maintenance schedule
The company should establish a fixed schedule to do a preventive
maintenance for the all of the equipment (Anon., 2014). Besides that, the key
employees also need to identify that which equipment are in critical condition
that need to be fixed first (Anon., 2014). The schedule also need to list the
types of maintenance that should be done on each of the equipment and what
things should be carried out in order to fix it (Anon., 2014).
B. Eliminate potential defects
The defects of the equipment can cost a lot of problems to the company and
also will slow down the process and performance of the company. So, it is
important to eliminate the defects of the equipment. The company needs to
find out the potential equipment defects which will causes problems and
eliminate them (Anon., 2014). Besides that, the operators should study more
about the equipment that used in the company to study the defects and the way
to overcome it (Anon., 2014). They also can study the post failures of the
equipment to overcome the defects.

C. Utilize equipment monitoring

The company also can use a monitoring system to keep track of their
equipment to prevent failure. This system able to determine the key
components of the equipment and provides opportunities to carry out
preventive maintenance before the problems occur. By monitoring the
equipment, it can improve the equipment reliability and maximize the facility
uptime (Anon., 2014).
2. Corrective Maintenance
Corrective Maintenance refers to the maintenance that performed in order to identify,
prevent and fix the equipment for the purpose of bringing back the equipment to its
operating condition (Anon., 2012) (Szwedo, 2012). It can be performed either plan or
un-plan due to the failure of the equipment. For planned corrective maintenance, it is
more like due to run-to-failure maintenance plan while unplanned corrective
maintenance is caused by the lack of maintenance plan. The company can use the
following process to carry out the corrective maintenance (Anon., n.d.).
A. Physical checking of a failure equipment
The purpose of checking the failure equipment is to identify the causes that
lead to the failure of equipment, determine whether it can be fixed or not and
whether it is safe for repair it (Anon., n.d.). If the companys equipment is
broken, the manager should quickly identify the equipment by checking it. If it
can be fix, the manager should ask the mechanic to carry out the maintenance
immediately to prevent the condition of the equipment getting worst.
B. Fix the equipment
After find out that there are some equipment breakdown, the company should
immediately call the maintenance to carry out the process in order to fix the
equipment and bring it continue working (Anon., n.d.). If the maintenance did
not carry out immediately, it can affect the performance of the company and
reduce the profit gains. So, it is very important to detect that whether which
equipment had broken and needed to repair.

3. Predictive Maintenance
Predictive maintenance is the maintenance that predict on when the failure of the
equipment will occur and then prevent the failure to happen by carry out the
performing maintenance (Anon., n.d.). By monitoring the future failure of the
equipment, it allows the maintenance to be done before the failure occurs on it and
when the budgeted and scheduled repairs are ongoing the disruption towards the
operations of system can be minimized (Worsham, n.d.).
A. Data preparation
The failure of the equipment can be predict by collecting the data of the
equipment. In order to collect this data, the company can monitor the
equipment by monitoring the energy used by the equipment (Vardi, 2015). By
analyse this data, the employee able to analyse the equipment whether it needs
maintenance or not (Vardi, 2015). Example if the equipment is drawing more
electrical power than usual, the employee able to detect and start to plan for
maintenance (Vardi, 2015).

Recommendation
For the final decision, the company is recommended to use the predictive
maintenance for their equipment. The reason of using the predictive maintenance is because
this type of maintenance is done by collecting the data from the equipment example like
energy consume. The data that acquire from the equipment is more accurate. So, it allows the
company to identify which equipment that needed to maintenance. Unlike the preventive
maintenance, it done all of the maintenance for the equipment while the predictive
maintenance only do the maintenance on the equipment that needed based on the data. For
the cost, the preventive maintenance will cost more than predictive because it done
maintenance for all of the equipment does not matter whether the condition is bad or good.
Although the company need to spend extra cost for training the employee analysing the data
for predictive maintenance, but it seem to be another advantage because the employee have
the knowledge to prevent the failure to be happen in the future.
