KEY
QUESTIONS

RESOURCES

Science
Inquiry
Skills

1. Combine
concepts learned
into an
understanding of
how weather
patterns form and
influence the
seasons.
2. Investigate the
concurrent
temperature
around the world.
3. Observe the
differences
between northern
and southern
hemisphere
climate.
4. Examine the
causes of
regularly
occurring weather
phenomena.

- Review mindmap
created by students.

1. Investigate the
meteorological
conditions for a
pre-assigned
location.
2. Create an online
postcard using
Canva, and
sharing it with the
class.

- Formative assessment
with postcards.

Delivery:
Direct students to WebQuest Weebly site.
Provide brief overview of what is expected in this lesson.
WebQuest will include direction to a Scootle interactive
resource elaborating on the effects of Earths tilt, then a
YouTube video explaining the seasons. Later the students
can learn about the Aboriginal seasons calendar.
Students will use Spiderscribe and Padlet to note what
theyve learned.
Ask students to begin, and to ask questions as they arise.
Student can also ask their neighbours/friends for help if
required.

- What is the
main cause of
the seasons?
- Whats the
correlation
between daylight
hours and
average
temperature?

- IWB
- Earth's tilt, and effects of
sunshine on different latitudes.

Lesson Closure: Once the activity is complete, ask students to

copy and paste their Spiderscribe link into the teachers padlet
page, ensuring their name is also on the tab. Also ask them to
add two points about something new theyve learned in this
lesson.

Transition: Ask students to create a login and familiarise

themselves with the Canva site, which will be used in the next
lesson.

- Create mindmap based upon

what has been learned.

Delivery:
Provide brief overview of what is expected in this lesson.
Use the decider wheel to assign world cities to students.
Ask students to begin, and to ask questions as they arise.
Student can also ask their neighbours/friends for help if
required.
Students are to research current meteorological info on their
assigned cities, and create a one-sided postcard (i.e. image
with text) using Canva, detailing this info as well as some
interesting local trivia.
Students to add their postcards onto teachers padlet page.

- What are the

differences in
climate between
northern and
southern
hemisphere?

- IWB

- Is there a
pattern when
comparing cities
in a similar
latitude?

W2/L3

W2/L4

1. Illustrate the
effects of the
moon on ocean
tides.
2. Introduce lunar
orbit and its
properties.
3. Define the coastal
features that are
produced by the
tides.
4. Interpret tidal data
to recognize that
tides are
constantly
changing around
the world.
5. Design a way to
harness the tidal
action and
generate
electricity.

- Formative assessment
during discussions and
group activity.

1. Research various
questions about
tides.
2. Create a Powtoon
(cartoon)
animation with the
questions and
answers
explained.

- Ongoing formative
assessment during
activity.

Transition: Ask students to begin understanding what tides are.

Delivery:
Direct students to WebQuest Weebly site.
Provide brief overview of what is expected in this lesson.
WebQuest will include direction to ABC Splash video
explaining how the Moon influences the Earth.
Group activity: youre a group of fishermen in WA and want
to know when is the best time to take your boat out for
fishing. Is it better to go out during high tide or low tide? At
night or during the day? Use online resources to determine
the local tidal cycle.
Video on extreme tides (Hopewell Rocks, Canada).
Lesson Closure: Ask students to think about ways of using the
changing tides to generate power, and be ready to discuss in the
next lesson.
Transition: Ask students to create a login and familiarise
themselves with the Powtoon site, which will be used in the next
lesson.

Delivery:
Provide brief overview of what is expected in this lesson.
Ask students to begin, and to ask questions as they arise.
Student can also ask their neighbours/friends for help if

Students are to research various questions and create an
explanatory video with questions as well as answers.
Students will embed links to their videos on the teachers
padlet page.
Lesson Closure: Review some of the videos made by the
students.
Transition: Ask students to begin thinking about the Moons
importance to life on Earth.
