1. What were the goals and objectives of the lesson? How did you
know what they were?
They were reviewing material about rounding. They played multiple
review games in groups and partners to go over the material.
2. How did the teacher begin the lesson? (Review of previous
material, motivational activity, etc.) Explain.
The very first thing they did was get in partners and they did problems
on a worksheet and checked each others work. They wrote their
initials on each others paper after they checked it.
3. Describe the activities used in the lesson in order.
First they did review math problems with each other, then they
watched a video to review rounding numbers. Following the video, they
did Scrambled Eggs which is another partner activity where they did
more practice review problems. To wrap up math they did a show what
you know which means they had to do 10 math problems and have her
check it.
4. Describe the teachers use of time. (How much time was used
for each part of the lesson?)
There were many activities throughout the course of the lesson which I
think is very important for younger kids. They spent about 10-15 mins
per activity and did 4 activities.
5. Describe the teachers classroom management /discipline style.
The classroom management style was very different from my normal
classroom. She is much more soft spoken and uses chimes to quiet the
class instead of yelling. She gave warnings to kids who were
misbehaving.
6. How does this teacher encourage students to achieve?
The teacher uses a gentle voice and encouraging words to get
students to try their best. She also has a money system and they get
paid for doing good things.
7. What does this teacher do that is unique?

The money is unique and each student has a job that they get paid for.
Every once in a while they get to cash in their money at either an
auction or a store.
8. What ideas did you pick up on from observing this teacher that
you could use?
I really liked the chime idea and also the idea of the money system.
It really got the kids to listen and gave them an incentive to do what
the teacher asks.
