Subject Matter: The Rise of the Roman Empire


Lesson Content Description: Students will read
chapter 14 lesson 2 in their social studies books
with a partner. Once the lesson is read they will
take notes in their interactive notebooks on the
categories that were affected by The Empire at its
peak. They will describe what attributes were
created because of the rise of the Empire.
Instructional Strategies/Method of Delivery:
Students will read chapter 14 lesson 2 in partners
Students will draw a two column graphic organizer in their INBs
Students will fill out the chart with material from their text by
being called on at random
Students will ear a stamp for correct completion of their notes
Common Core Standard:
6.7- Students analyze the geographic, political, economic, religious,
and social structures during the development of Rome.
6.7.3- Identify the location of and the political and geographical
reasons for the growth of the Roman territories and expansion of the
empire, including how the empire fostered economic growth through
the use of currency and trade routes.

The students will be able to describe the characteristics and the
developments of the Roman Empire at its peak.

LESSON PRESENTATION
INTO
Step-by-Step Anticipatory Set/Orientation
Students are asked to take out their social studies textbooks and
partner read chapter 14 lesson 2
Once the chapter is read, the students take out their social
studies INBs and set up a two-column graphic organizer titled
The Empire at its Peak
The left side of the graphic organizer lists the five areas affected
by the Rise of the Roman Empire (land, architecture, engineering,
agriculture, and industry)
The right side lists the things that happened in these areas
because of the accomplishments of the Roman Empire being at
its peak
THROUGH
Step-by-Step Presentation of the Objective
Students are called on at random to fill in each section of the
graphic organizer one section at a time, sharing the ideas that
they found from their reading.
On at least two sections the students are asked to share with

their partners before being called on for an answer


All things shared and discussed are put onto the graphic
organizer. Students follow what the teacher does in her notebook
on the document camera

Students get a stamp for points towards their social studies INB
grades for correctly completed work.
