12internationalFoodIndustryclustersandcentresofscientificexcellenceinParis:
Afirstattheinitiativeof F2CInnovation

Paris, June 2nd, 2010 FC Innovation, le French food industry created by three French clusters
(Agrimip Innovation, Valorial and Vitagora) has taken the initiative of inviting 12 international
clustersandcentresofscientificexcellence(1)toParisonJune3rd,2010.Belgian,British,Canadian,
Danish,Spanish,French,Dutch,ItalianandSwedishintotal9nationalitieswillberepresentedfor
a day of discussions and exchanges. The objective: to present the cutting edge scientific
capabilitieswithineachoftheseorganisationsandcarryout9workshopsonanumberoftopics(2)
inordertodefinepriorityareasforsettingupjointR&Dprojects.

Clusterorganisationsplacegreatimportanceoninternationalrelations.Itisboththeopportunityto
promotethecapabilitieswithintheirnetworkandtheirterritoriesandtoidentifyandcooperatewith
scientificandtechnologicalexcellencefromotherpartsoftheworld.ThethreeFrenchfoodindustry
clusterswithinthestructureFCInnovationhavethusjoinedforcesinordertopoolresourcesand
benefitfromagreatervisibilityonaninternationalscale.Itwasthennecessarytoprioritiseareasof
development,with9scientificthemesbeingidentified.Thenextstepwastoidentifytheworldclass
centresofscientificexcellencethatcorrespondedtothesethemes,explainsPatriceRoch,Director
ofAgrimipInnovation.

The result was the identification of 18 cluster and research organisations with which FC made
contact.12oftheseorganisationsrespondedpositivelytoourinvitationforaninternationalFood
Industry cluster meeting on June 3rd in Paris, confirms Patrice Roch. This is indeed the first time
that 15 food industry cluster organisations have taken part in a day of exchanges in which
researchers from each cluster present their activities and specific capabilities and strengths during
the9workshopscoordinatedbyFCInnovation.Ourobjectiveistodiscussandshareourcommon
preoccupationsinordertoextractkeyquestionsthatcansoonleadtothelaunchofjointprojects,
declarethecoordinatorsofFCInnovation.

FCINNOVATION
FC Innovation is the French Food industry Super cluster created by the alliance of three French clusters (Agrimip
Innovation, Valorial et Vitagora). It represents a doorway onto a vast network of multidisciplinary research capable of
analysingemergingtechnologiesandchangingfoodhabitsonaninternationalscaleinordertogenerateinnovationwithin
agricultureandfoodproduction.
Thisnetworkofmanufacturingcompaniesandpublicandprivateresearchorganisationscoversallthelinksoftheagrifood
value chain: from food and nonfood agribusiness primary products through to functional ingredients and innovative
productdevelopmentadaptedtothetastesandnutritionalneedsoftomorrowsconsumers.

AGRIMIPINNOVATION
Agrimip Innovation was created in July 2007. The cluster is based in Toulouse in the MidiPyrnes region of France. Its
networkcontains125companiesandresearchcentres.TheconceptofAgroChainsisthekeyspecialisationofthecluster.
Byarticulatingallthelinksofthevaluechain,fromthemarketandconsumerneeds,totheproductionofagroresources,
agrochainsallowmarketplayerstoinnovateanddeveloptheircompetitivenessbyanticipatingconsumerneeds.3areas
havebeenprioritised:Analyticaltechnologies,ProcessingandMarket/Consumer.

Themes: Animal selection (in particular Ovines), Plant chemistry, Natural fertilises and phytopharamceuticals, Varietal

Based in the French regions of Brittany, Pays de la Loire and Basse Normandie, with an international scope, Valorial is
situated in one of Europe most productive food producing regions near to 250 companies, research centers and higher
educationestablishmentswhointerestedintakingupthechallengeofinnovatingandanticipatingtomorrowsmarkets.
Valorialisopentotheinternationalcontextforscientificandeconomiccooperationswithpartnersfromothercountriesin
theareasofexpertiseofthecluster.

Areas of expertise of Valorial: Quality control of animal production, technologies of milk and egg production, innovative
