Experience of Writing
Throughout my years I have struggled a lot with English. I started off Elementary School
with low scores in my reading and writing. I was tested for my English to see if I needed to be in
a program called IEP. That program was for I could receive the help that I needed in order to
improve my English. The reason why I was tested and put in that program was because my mom
had requested it. I would right letters for my mom for valentines day, mothers day, etc. and she
wouldnt be able to read what I wrote to her because I didnt know how to write and I was
already in second grade. I was put in the IEP program when I was in second grade and I was in
that program till I graduated high school. The IEP program helped me a lot through Elementary,
Middle School, and High School years. Im actually glad I got the help that I did because without
that program I dont think my English would have been that good. I still struggle in my writing
but it has got better through out the years that I have been writing. The more I practice I do on
writing the better I will get, like they say practice makes perfect.
I have learned that no matter the struggles I have in writing I shouldnt give up because at
the end of the writing processes there would be a good outcome. But what I have learned here at
CSUN and in the English 113B class with Professor Griffith was to never give up on my writing
and continue with the challenge. While writing a paper I shouldnt put so much thinking in to it, I
should just let it flow and let everything out on a piece of paper. Then later on when everything is
on the paper let it sit there for a couple of days and come back to it with a fresh memory. By the

time I come back to the paper I will find all my mistakes and it will be easier to revise and fix it.
When Professor Griffith gave the class that advise I took it and actually used it and helped so
much, it made my writing be easier.
The way I have changed as a writer was by taking my time on writing my essays, also by
learning how to fix my mistakes and who to go to when I need help with my writing. As a writer
in college its very difficult because I was pushed to go beyond on my thoughts and on how I
write from the way I was writing in High School. Cause the way I was writing was no longer
accepted in college, the rules of high school writing was 5 paragraphs and no ore then that, well
here in college that changed, we were be taught to write up to 5 pages or more didnt matter how
many paragraphs but to know how to elaborate. Im not going to lie it was a struggle, by all the
notes I got on my essays it made me better on fixing the errors that occurred on my papers. Also
with all the advises I received by my classmates and the extra help that I had outside of class. By
all the videos and articles, we saw in class helped me as a writer because those were extra notes
that I had in order to be a writer. Another thing that I learned as a writer is to stop summarizing
and do more analyzing.
The way that I can improve as a writer while Im at CSUN is by using all the recourses
that are provided to us at CSUN. Like for an example use the CHS writing lab, the LRC, etc.
because with all those recourses they will help me with my weaknesses in my writing. Another,
thing that I can improve here at the University is my procrastination. With procrastinating on
doing my essays will not help me from all my weaknesses because thats when I do them at the
last minute and start lacking on my writing. With all the suggestions I got this semester in
English 113B will help me as a writer because everything that I was taught and have been said to
me were all different ideas that it can help me with my writing skills in the future at CSUN.
