Students will be able to formulate an argument for their particular character using evidence from what has been learnt in this
lesson and the use of their textbooks.
Students will also gain an understanding of the reasons for and against Federation.

Opening:
This lesson is an introductory
lesson into Australian Federation.
Students will be introduced to the
topic via a short PowerPoint
presentation, there will also be
some light reading involved.
5 minute BTN clip may also be
shown just to consolidate the
information (see link in resource
section).
Students
may
be
somewhat familiar with
this area of study some
students
may
have
already begun study on
the topic in term 2 whilst
others may only have
some background from
previous school years of
study (Primary school
study on Federation).

Lesson Development:
A
goal
of
the
introduction
of
this
lesson is that students
will be familiar with the
topic and be able to
participate in a light
discussion of the topic.
Students
will
be
engaged
with
the
information provided to
them
through
the
different media modes
(PowerPoint and video
clip) evidence of this
will be in the students
efficiency to take notes
and
question
the
information
given
to
them.
An aim of this part of the
lesson is to provide the
students with a more
tangible
activity/experience
in
the classroom that will
guide their learning on
the new topic.
A method of informal
evaluation will be in the
way
in
which
the
students are able to
formulate
and
argue/orally
communicate
their
points for and against

This time will be spent on
consolidating
what
has
been
discovered during this lesson.
There will also be discussion on
what the students have read and
their answers to the questions from
the textbook.
