Opening:
This lesson is an introductory
lesson into Australian Federation.
Students will be introduced to the
topic via a short PowerPoint
presentation, there will also be
some light reading involved.
5 minute BTN clip may also be
shown just to consolidate the
information (see link in resource
section).

Students
may
be
somewhat familiar with
this area of study some
students
may
have
already begun study on
the topic in term 2 whilst
others may only have
some background from
previous school years of
study (Primary school
study on Federation).

The role of the teacher

during this time is to
introduce the topic and
develop the students
thinking/understanding
of Federation.
The focus is on the how
and why of Federation,
looking into the causes
and effects of Federation
on
each
colony
individually and as one
nation.
The teacher will also
consolidate
the
information and make
sure
the
students
understand the days
activity.

A
goal
of
the
introduction
of
this
lesson is that students
will be familiar with the
topic and be able to
participate in a light
discussion of the topic.
Students
will

An aim of this part of the
lesson is to provide the
students with a more
tangible
activity/experience
in
the classroom that will
guide their learning on
the new topic.
A method of informal
evaluation will be in the

Once students have been given
enough time to work through this

Students will gauge an
idea of how important
Federation was to all of
the colonies and how
each colony needed to
look out for their own
best interests.

The teacher will continue

to
consolidate
the
information learnt in the
days
lesson
and
continue
questioning
students on Federation.

Another informal method

of evaluation for this
lesson is that students
are
able
to
recall
relevant
and
correct
information
regarding
Federation.
A formal method of
evaluation
will
take
place in one or two
weeks time when the
students will be asked to
make oral presentations
on either Federation,
White Australia Policy or
Women Suffragettes.
