How to use Jing

What
A Screen Capture software for taking
screenshots or videos

Download Jing from Techsmith.com

Press Free Download

Select your version


(Windows or Mac)

Install Jing

Create a TechSmith account,


Press Sign In

Fill up the form

Or Sign up with Google

When not in use,


Jing is a half-circle icon

Hover over the icon to activate it

Capture:
Use to start a screen capture

History:
Use to see and manage all previous captures

More:
Use to access the preferences

Press Capture

The mouse cursor will


transform into a crosshair

Select what will be


captured on the screen

You can select either a Window ...

... A part of a window ...

... The entire screen ...

... Or a specific area

Select a specific area


by clicking and dragging the cursor

Hold SHIFT to select at


a 16:9 aspect ratio

Hold CTRL to select at


a 4:3 aspect ratio

Click and drag the area


to reposition the selection

Click and drag the corners


to resize the selection

Press This Button


to Capture an Image

Press This Button


to Capture a Video

Press This Button


to Redo the Selection

Press This Button


to Cancel the Selection

The Dimension of the Selection


is displayed at the right

Press More

Select Preferences

Press the area under Capture

(Optional)
Enable Hide the Jing sun

Press Finish

The Sun will be disabled...

... But Jing will continue


to run at the background

The Capture Hotkey provides


convenient access to Jing

And makes it easier to capture


images of Dropdown menus

Recap: Press This Button


to Capture an Image

A Preview window will open

These are the Annotation Tools

Arrow Tool:
Use to focus viewers attention on something

Text Tool:
Use to insert comments or notes

Frame Tool:
Use to draw a box around something noteworthy

Highlight Tool:
Use to draw attention on something to something

To insert objects or annotations,


select the tool

Click and drag to insert the object

To Resize an Object,
Drag its Handlers

Name the Image

When you are done,


you can either

Share the Image

Save it to your Computer

Copy to the Clipboard

or Delete the Image

Tip: Creating screenshots through


Jing can be useful when

The Clipboard gets locked =


Print Screen wont work

To take screenshots,
select the entire screen

Create an Image

Name the Image

And Save to your Computer

Select the file location

And Press Save to Confirm

A message will confirm


that the Image was saved

Tip: Saving images to the clipboard


makes them available elsewhere

Recap: Press this button


to Copy to the Clipboard

A message will confirm


that the Image was copied

The image can then


be inserted to emails

or word processors like


Microsoft Word

And Many Others!

Recap: Press this button


to capture a video

Jing will begin a countdown


before recording starts

Once Recording Starts,


there are several options

Press this button


to STOP Recording

Press this button


to PAUSE Recording

Press this button


to MUTE/ UNMUTE Recording

Press this button to RETURN back


to the previous options

Press this button


to CANCEL Recording

Note: There is a maximum of


five minutes per video

This also indicates the


LENGTH of the Recording

After Stopping the Recording,


a PREVIEW Window will open

Press this to Review the Video

Name the Video

Press this Button to Share

Press this Button to Save

Press this Button to Delete

Note: Jing Free can only


save in SWF format

Press the Jing Icon

Select History

Select the Capture you want to


view

You can either View

Share

or Delete the capture

Pressing this button, lets you share


through Screencast.com

Creating a TechSmith account also


creates a Screencast account

To Upload a Capture,
Press this button

A message will confirm


that the capture was Uploaded

A sharing link will also be


created in the clipboard

Which can be pasted to


an email or Private Message

Or Shared in Social Media
