Business and Innovation

Mapping out a Value Proposition

Diagnostic Exercise
PART ONE, TWO & THREE

Name: Chris Szkoda

Name of Group: Velazquez
Name of Business: THE VISION
Date: 13/03/2016

PART 1 - DEFINING YOUR BUSINESS

Your business idea may or may not need to reinforce its Mission Statement
to keep it pointed in the right direction. Defining it narrowly, broadly and
informally will help you understand the aims of your business as it enters its
next stage of development.
Narrow Mission
To support young students who wanted to apply for media related courses at the
universities in the UK.
Broad Mission
To offer an opportunity for the students from poorer backgrounds who have passion in
any areas of media to study at universities in the UK without worrying about the extra
costing for accommodation since the government scrapped of the maintenance grant
2016. This will also support the media industries to tackle against skills shortages since
there are less people learning how to use digital design tools.
The funding will be used for to pay off students accommodation and to provide discount
cost of the tuition fee.
Informal Definition
The business gets funded by media industries who are suffering from skills shortage and
they are willing to support the students from poorer backgrounds who would love to
work for them. This will include interviews and evidence to ensure the funds goes
directly to the rightful students who deserves it, then eventually if succeed the fund will
go towards tuition fee deduction, and accommodation.
The media industries can gain more applicants to reduce the skills shortage, and the
industries will not lose partnerships with publishers such as Warner Bros.

PART 2 - DARING TO DREAM

Whilst Mission Statements are essential to organisational planning, when
looking to the future it will be important to have an understanding of your
sense of vision. This requires you to throw off your inhibitions and imagine
what could be, how you would ideally like your business to grow. There are
no right or wrong answers.
2.1 What do you hope your business will be like in three years time?
I hope the business will be big as the student finance company, be able to encourage
and support the young individuals from poorer backgrounds who wanted to study media
related courses.
To prevent media universities to have a majority of rich students as it should be for
every student from different financial backgrounds.
To collaborate with more media industries for partnership deals in funding.
2.2 Which four adjectives will best describe your business in three years time?
1.
2.
3.
4.

Media Haven
Media Education Support
Charity
Media Student Finance

2.3 What do you hope your businesss most valuable assets will be in three years time?
The most valuable assets for my business are partnership with the media industries such
as Framestore, Pinewood Studios, Sony, and Double Negative. As these industries were
trying to set up an education classes to train next generation of students to get into the
industries by the funding of 6.5 million.
UK Education as a partnership, because the Education is trying to solve the problems of
why majority of students studying at universities are only rich students. The UK
Education wants to increase students from poorer backgrounds to have a chance of
entering universities.
The reputation would also be important asset for my business because once the news or
education news gets info about it; a lot of students from poorer backgrounds would rely
on it for funding to get into the media related universities.

The funding is always the main important asset from the industries otherwise the
business will not work if the industries stop funding.
2.4 Imagine three years from now: you have received three strongly expressed fan
letters from people who have experienced your business. What did they say?
The majority of letters from fans would say special thanks to support my future of
getting into the education of media, and to be able of getting a future job at the media
industries such as Framestore. To recommend to my friends who got difficulties of
looking for funds to get into media related universities.
The business would receive sad emotional letters saying how the students families were
taking hit in financial difficulties since the Government cuts. The love ones wanted to
support their kids who wanted to study media related courses at universities, but they
cant, and my business can solve their problems as a life change to support these
students.
2.5 Imagine three years from now: WIRED magazine (or an architectural magazine or a
fashion magazine) has cited a major accomplishment of your business. What did it say?
The Cinefex (VFX/Games) magazine would say This is a great alternative of entering
the media industries by supporting the students from poorer backgrounds to enable
them to study media related courses. This will solve the skills shortage problems for any
of VFX and Video Games industries who are suffering this.
2.6. Imagine three years from now: The Prime Minister of your country speaks of
another major accomplishment of your business. What did he/she say?
I understand the Government was responsible for destroying the education system to
affect the university students such as scraping off maintenance grant and the increase
of tuition fee. The Prime Minister would say:
I understand the country is in recession and we had to make difficult decisions for
every citizen. This is why the business The Vision had built relationships with media
industries to fund the poorer students who wanted to study media related courses to get
a better job.
I hope theres more than one business like The Vision that can help other poorer
students who wanted to study other courses like medicine to get into medicine
companies.
This is the future for Britain to encourage new education system that is funded from
major companies in the UK such as NHS to help students from poorer backgrounds.

2.7 Imagine three years from now: Bill Gates/Vivienne Westwood/Norman Foster is
overheard saying: Imagine that! This business which began from within Ravensbourne
has actually. Finish this sentence.
Imagine that! This business which began from within Ravensbourne has actually
became another education fund body as the alternative of student finance but with
cooperation funding
2.8 Imagine three years from now: the General Secretary of the United Nations, Ban KiMoon gives a speech that begins: I didnt think it was possible but this post-graduate
students business actually managed to What achievement is he/she extolling?
I would say a massive achievement of unifying both the business and education systems
together to build a stronger economy for the world to create a better future for the
young generation. I hope many businesses can be built like my business across the
globe to help students with big financial difficulties.
2.9 Imagine three years from now: Describe briefly a typical day in your life as you run
your business
The typical day in my life of running the business would say very busy because the
people I have to employ had to go through list of applicants who applied our funding.
This will include examine each applicants financial backgrounds to ensure they are the
right students who deserved the funding for their education life in studying media
related courses at universities. Otherwise if I done it myself I would be stuck in office all
my life.
There will be big meetings with the media industries who wanted to continue funding
my business to fund the students. Also to meet with the education departments to
accept discounts for the poorer students, and to accept funding to pay off the
accommodation.
2.10 On the understanding that your business will have advisors and possibly nonexecutive Directors, who are the five ideal people you would like to recruit and why?
1. Visionary because I want someone who can be in charge of building new ways
of reaching students from poorer backgrounds? How we can advise them to
apply our funding business.
2. Webmaster who can able to create an easy access to set up online applications
like the student finance.
3. Lawyer to ensure other student finance companies dont complain about my
business, and have the rights of defending in court cases.
4. Administrators to examine the applications.
5. Partner Manager to ensure my business stays partnership with media
industries and the education departments.

2.11 What were the major new activities of your business during this successful third
year?
I would say my business had successfully helped lot students from poorer backgrounds
who applied for universities, and this also helped the media industries employ these
students as the new generation.
The education department in the government office had succeed in preventing
universities from becoming a fully institution with only rich students studying.

PART 3 ASPIRATIONS & FEARS

3.1 What are your personal aims as far as setting up your business is concerned?
To research todays education problem including contacting a market research to found
out how many students who are from poorer backgrounds. Otherwise Student Finance
would increase the loans on these students before making important decisions.
To set up meetings with the industries who has skills shortage, and who are willing to
fund my business in order to fund the poorer students with digital media talent.
To organize project management roles within my business otherwise the funding
process will not procced. To have access to the HMRC system with permission from the
government to look at the applicants financial background information.
3.2 What are your fears?
My fears are if the Media Industries stop the funding then my business would be put on
administration for to be terminated. Therefore without funding then there is no hope for
the students with poorer backgrounds to get into the media related courses at
universities then working at the industries.
3.3 Who were the most important people you met with in connection with your business
in the last twelve months and why?
The important people I met within connection with my business are the officials from
education department because students are the most priority of the education system,
and they need help in dealing with financial difficulties in entering the level of
universities.
The makers from media industries needs more people to work for them as they got
difficulties looking for new generation of people to work for them. Otherwise it would be
difficult for them to complete products and projects to work as a small team for clients.
3.4 Who would be the most important people that you would like to meet in connection
with your business over the next year?
Meeting with major cooperations such as Apple, who wanted to new generation of
people to work for them. To persuade other people from different industry backgrounds
such as Science to create another identical business idea as mine.
