Final
I was born July 1, 1998 at the University of Utah hospital at 11:00pm.Fun fact, I was
lucky enough to get the head of the delivery team to deliver me and the head of anesthesiology to
treat my mom. I was born prematurely but close enough to my due date that my health was fine.
But I was born with severe cradle cap that caused my hair to grow in thin. I was also born with a
slight lazy eye that wasnt severe but could be noticed. Though I wasnt perfectly healthy all the
problems were self correcting. And after a while I was a normal, healthy baby.
I have three other siblings consisting of two brothers and one sister. My brother is 20, my
sister is 12, and my younger brother is 6. We have all attended the same elementary school which
was Copperview, and the same high school which is Murray high. But me and my older brother
went to the same preschool which was Guadalupe. Since we all attended pretty much the same
schools we have also lived in the same area of all the schools. We begun by living in Glendale,
then we moved to midvale, and Murray for high school.
Getting into more detail about my life. My first monumental moment occurred when I
was 1. That is when my grandmother, grandfather, uncle, and two aunts moved to the United
States from Mexico. My grandparents werent aware of my birth till after I was born. And I was
there first grandchild. So they hurried to the U.S. to come see me. Then after that they decided to
stay. I think this was very important to my Social/Emotional development. According to the
text,Social referencing refers to the seeking of emotional responses or information from other
people(Berger, 2014, p.147). With the ability to gain culture from my dads side of the family I
was able to gain more of a self identity. I use the traditions that they taught me to shape my
cultural background and beliefs today.

As I got older and with their guidance, I begun the journey to creating my own
personality. I was very outgoing and sassy when I was in my prime of elementary. I was
outspoken and had no filter much like my aunts. I enjoyed dancing, singing, and I had attitude
since day one. Mostly observing and doing the same things that my aunts loved to do. I was like
there little doll, they would dress me up and do my hair. That is where I gained my diva complex.
These activities helped my cognitive development by providing a social context by which I could
get guided participation from someone older and more experienced (Berger, 2014, p.184).
Soon after I was introduced to my little sister jasmine at the age of 5. I had never seen
someone that was so fragile like her. It was strange for me as I poked and prodded her. I was not
aware of this feeling of having a familiar person that I have never met. But I gained a love for
her that was something only sisters could understand. She allowed me to have someone to grow
up with and lead into an experience that I had more knowledge about, which is growing up. She
helped me develop my social abilities. By playing with her I learned my basic rights and wrongs
of play. According to the text,With increasing experiences and increasing egocentrism, children
develop empathy, an understanding of other peoples feelings and concerns(Berger, 2014,
p.226).
After that experience I went through another life changing experience, which was
puberty, occurring during my 6th grade year. I started my period at the age of 12 and I went
through an awkward stage as I tried to cope with these changes. I noticed the changes in my
body as the beginning of breasts begun to show and I started to get more hips. The worst part of
the whole situation of course was the acne that developed due to the changes that occurred with
my hormones. In the text it explains,Puberty refers to the years of rapid physical growth and
sexual maturation that end childhood, producing a person of adult size, shape, and

sexuality.(Berger, 2014, p.319). With the onset of these physical developments I was able to
mature into the person I am today. This was also a hard time for me socially because I was very
self concious about my body. So I would wear big clothes to cover up so I would feel more
comfortable. But now that I look back on it I think everyone went through that stage. In the text
it says,Few teenagers welcome every physical change in their bodies.(Berger, 2014, p, 328).
Shortly after that year, I was surprised with another sibling at the age of 11 in 7th grade.
My youngest brother Dominic was born at the Intermountain hospital. Since I dont really
remember much of what I experienced with my sister as a baby. I begun the journey to
developing my nurturing skills, as I took care of him. This skill was developed through the
Social development of family closeness. The text explains that family closeness can help with
personal development. The communication and support of the family allows an adolescent to
develop a positive family connection(Berger, 2014, p.362). Id agree that my connection with my
family has allowed me to gain skills and develop properly. Plus taking care of him has made me
closer to him as a sister.
Shortly after the birth of my brother I went through a monumental change in my
education throughout my middle school years. I begun to advance in school which was great for
my later high school years. I was involved in a lot of cultural activities and school contest such
as the reflection competition. It was definitely a great couple of years for my cognitive growth. I
still refer to those years when I search for knowledge on certain subjects. According to the
text,As achievement slows down, behavioral problems rise. Puberty itself is part of the
problem.(Berger, 2014, p.340). This information didnt apply to me surprisingly enough. During
these years I was more successful in school. I got a lot of awards and tried my best up until 9th

grade where the curriculum became more difficult. Which was when I achieved about average
with my grades but I was able to become more recognized for my good work ethic.
When I finished my middle school and I was pretty proud of my work. But I was very
nervous about the change I was about to undergo. Since I didnt really like the familiarity of my
former classmates. I decided to make the big step to change school districts. It wasnt a very
appealing idea to me at first but then after some problems with my former friends I decided it
was a good idea. I dont regret any of it because it has allowed me to become who I am today. It
is expressed in the text that the first year of highschool is the most difficult to transfer into. It all
depends on the school, and egocentrism of the student(Berger, 2014, p. 342). Since it was to my
benefit to change schools, the change wasnt that difficult which was a breath of fresh air. After a
little while I was able to properly adjust to all the news changes, and I am now happily settled.
One of the many factors that helped me settle in was meeting my friends. Though as of
today some of them arent as close to me as they were. I still thank them for giving me the
opportunity to create some sort of security in an rather unknown territory. My very best friend is
Sadati she has been my friend since 10th grade and she introduced me to her clique. In the text a
clique is described as,A cluster of close friends who are loyal to one another and who exclude
outsiders(Berger, 2014, p. 365).Which was definitely true to our group of friends.Without her I
would have been all alone and uncomfortable in my classes. But thanks to her I made six friends
in a week. As of today we are still friends and we are still close even though she doesnt go the
same school anymore. I am really glad I met her because she has given me a lot of good
memories and she is a great friend.
My last event that I really appreciate is entering into my CNA class. I feel like it has
changed me. I have developed emotionally and cognitively in the best way possible. Since

joining the class I have grown a true understanding of human life. Due to the severity of some of
the residents in the facility, it was hard when I first started going to my clinicals. But throughout
the whole process I realize that what cnas do is really amazing. It could be considered the dirty
work but it is one of the best feelings to help someone that needs it. Through talking to residents,
and going through class work I have been able to gain more of an understanding of all the
concepts discussed.
Allowing me to grow a better understanding of medical terminology, concepts, and the
human body in general. Taking this class has allowed me to develop and use more of my
analytical thinking which is described as, the formal, logical, hypothetical-deductive thinking
described by Piaget. It involves rational analysis of many factors whose interactions must be
calculated(Berger, 2014, p. 338). Taking this class has allowed me to discovered my passion for
the medical field and my love for helping people. It has also allowed me to develop my thought
process to adapt to working in a medical setting which will be beneficial for my future career.
