The poem that I have chosen is Mr. Tanner by Harry
Chapin. The poet is a singer/songwriter that made songs from the genre of folk rock. The reason I chose poem is because of the theme. The theme is about believing in yourself no matter what other people say. The main character of the poem joins a singing competition and judges give him negative feedback. This has an impact on the main character and his self-esteem. After the competition the character will no longer sing to anyone except to himself. The poetic devices that are found in the poem are rhyme, metaphor, and imagery. Rhyme is very evident because every line rhymes with the next one. The poem follows a rhyming pattern. Metaphor is used to describe his life as music. It is said that music is his life, which means that music makes up a lot of his life. Imagery is used to describe how the character saw the concert hall in which he is singing in. The visual that I made is a website. The reason why my visual goes with the poem is because it contains pictures that go with the specific lines and sections. The colours match with the mood that the poem is sending across to the reader. It is a bright blue colour.
