308.1 Performance Criteria 7. Demonstrate respect and value for childrenâ s capabilities and strengths 8. Positively value diversity and demonstrate acceptance of similarities and dif ferences Demonstrating respect and value for children's capabilities and strengths is bas ically recognising what a child is good at eg it could be drawing, reading, bala ncing on a beam etc.. praising the child verbally to boost their self esteem and rewarding the child, maybe with a sticker, or displaying their work or showing their work to other staff and/or their parents. Recognise when a child has achie ved something eg toilet training. Setting more challenging goals for a child to achieve. Positively value diversity and demonstrate acceptance of similarities and differ ences: recognising that there are children from many different cultures, each ch ild is unique, celebrating different events eg Eid, Diwali, respecting different religions, beliefs, dress codes, foods, traditions, recognising that children h ave different backgrounds eg some may come from single parent families, some may be mixed race only children etc.. Children may be SEN, EAL or G&T. Recognising that although children are all different they still have the same rights to be s afe, cared for, be respected, be heard, to play etc..
