Specific Project Guidelines


This individual project will provide learner with opportunity to evaluate their individual development
needs. Also it will help learners relate their needs with the future needs of organisations they aim to
work with and track their progress towards personal short, medium and long term objectives.
A detailed Personal Development Plan (PDP) (Section II) based on the template discussed in the
lecture should be attached to the appendix of your assignment document (see template below). Before
you prepare PDP you should carryout research on following tasks (Section I) to aid PDP.
Section I Understanding needs and evaluating skills
You should use appropriate models and theories to complete skill review as per following tasks.

Use appropriate methods to evaluate your personal skills required to achieve strategic goals you
will set in PDP.
Apply techniques to assess the professional skills required to support the strategic direction you
aim to achieve in future.
Carry out a skills audit (for at least six months) to evaluate the strategic skills needed to meet
current and future leadership requirements you need to develop to help your current or future
organisation. You should fill and attach skills audit template (see attachment below) in
appendices. A self-evaluation of your leadership skills have to be carried out and discussed
utilising at least ONE (01) of the following tools discussed in lectures: The Capacity Matrix

A Diagnostic Skills Assessment Questionnaire

A situation analysis for yourself should be carried out and discussed by using BOTH of the
following tools

You should apply appropriate techniques to identify preferred learning style/s.

Section II Personal Development Plan


2.1 You have to develop a comprehensive Personal Development Plan (PDP) based on development
requirements identified in skills audit (1.3). Use following sub sections to prepare PDP.
a. Development skills identifies in Skills audit (1.3)
b. Establishment of Future Goals
At least Six(06) goals should be discussed. These goals have to be established based upon the

SMART criteria discussed in the lecture and should be divided into short-term, medium- term and
long-term goals
c. Identification and enumeration of specific Actions to achieve your goals
At least two (02) actions should be specified and discussed for each of the Six goals. These actions
should be detailed and should consist, for example names of courses to be followed or training
programmes to be followed etc.
Implement the PDP
This section should discuss resources required for implementation and possible implementation
problems for your PDP.
Communicating your plan
You should discuss how you are going to communicate your PDP with your mentors, supervisors or
managers and why this is an important part of PDP planning
Review and Monitor the progress of the PDP
You should discuss how frequently you will review your PDP (at least six month) and the specific
measurements which would be utilised (quantitative or qualitative) to monitor the progress of your
PDP
