Day 3 Lesson Plan: What Information is on the Periodic Table?

Subject: Chemistry

Lesson Objective: Students will be introduced to some very
important information on the Periodic Table found in the
Chemistry Reference Tables, and will become familiar with the
chemical symbols and naming system of common elements by
answering a worksheet and playing element bingo.
Lesson Outline and Task for the students:
1) After a whole group instruction on information on the Periodic
Table and chemical symbols, students will independently answer
two worksheets. Two versions of the Modern Periodic Table (a
colorful version from Scholastic magazine and the official black
and-white NYS CRT version) will be provided to the students to
allow easier and faster familiarization of the Periodic Table
2. During the last 20 minutes of the class, four games of element
bingo will be played. Extra credit points will be awarded to
winners in each game.
Summative Assessment:
The two worksheets given out earlier will be collected at the end of
the class and graded by the instructor.
