Outside Agency Meeting- Atlantic Provinces Special Education Authority (APSEA)

On May 19th 2016, the ESS team met with the Atlantic Provinces Special Education
Authority regarding a student who is legally deaf, partially blind and cannot speak; the
students parents also attended this meeting. At this meeting goals and outcomes of this past
school year were discussed we also discussed and set goals for the upcoming year. We also
started to look at a long term plan for the student and how she will transition after high school.
The ESS team wants to put in place the proper supports over the next three years in order for
the student to be successful.
It was discussed how grade nine is a settling in academic year, and the gains that the
student has made in terms of establishing a routine have been successful. One of the most
successful supports was the use of the iPad and the Proloquo to Go program, it is encouraged
that she continues to use this over the summer.
NBACL was discussed as an option for the student for post-secondary however the
parent prefers going through social development, the parent has also been looking into the
ADAPT program. The family plans to move closer to the city after the student graduated which
opens up further opportunities as well.
The APSEA representative gave an informative update on the students progress for this
year and has been impressed with her increased use of her iPad for communication. It was
suggested that this modeling of language continue over the summer.

The ESS team, parent, and APSEA communicated goals for the student and specified
some individualized social skills for next year. They also explored course content for next year
and the outcomes.
The above information will be kept and monitored as part of the students personalized
learning plan. The PLP is overseen by the grade 9 resource teacher.
