Scholastic News: Insects that will rock your

summer
COMMON CORE STANDARD:
Students can engage in research/inquiry to investigate topics and present
information. Conceptual Areas in the Dynamic Learning Map:
ELA.C4.1 Use Sources and Information
ELA.C4.2 Collaborate and Present Ideas
LEARNING GOAL:
Students will identify types of insects.
OBJECTIVE(s):
Students will analyze the given worksheet and will then be able to identify
different insects after this lesson.
MATERIALS:
Smart board, Scholastic worksheets
PROCEDURES:
1. Introduction: I do
a. Gain student attention
I will go through the worksheet with them.
b. Review
I will review with them what other animals do.
c. Define new concepts:
I will then go over with them what an insect's we learned about and
what they ` do

Guided practice: We do
We will then watch a video on the insects we learned about

Independent practice: You do


They will then make an insect on their own

CLOSURE:
To wrap up the lesson I will then have each student show their insect and tell
me what their insect does.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE NEEDED:
Students should be able to follow directions, process information, take turns,
etc.

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT PLAN TO SUPPORT LEARNING:


To reward students who are on tasks I will reward them with stars to go on
their star charts. If a student becomes off task I will verbally remind them. If
the student continues to be off task distracting other students I will pull them
out of the lesson and put them in blue square.
BACK UP PLAN:
If the internet was to go out I would then go over the worksheet more in
depth and move onto the make a bug activity.
LEARNING STYLES:
Visual - For the visual learner, Students will be allowed to use the smart
board.
Tactile - For the tactile learner, students will be allowed to stand while
making their bug.
Kinesthetic - For the kinesthetic learner, students will be allowed physically
point to the insects while talking about them.
Auditory- For the auditory learner, students will be allowed to say the
insects name out loud.
