Left To Tell
Synopsis
Left To Tell is Immaculee Ilibagizas
story about how she survived the
Rwandan Genocide while being a
Tutsi. The book is split up into three
parts. The first part describes her life
before the holocaust, the second part
describes her life during hiding, and
the third part illustrates her creating a
new life for herself. Immaculee starts

to rebuild her life by getting a job at the UN in Rwanda. However, she does not
stay in Rwanda for long because she eventually moves to the United States to
become an author and motivational speaker.

Left To Tell Review

Immaculee Ilibagizas Left To Tell is a thrilling memoir of Immaculees life
during the Rwandan Genocide. In my opinion, the book starts off a little dry
because Immaculee describes her family and her early childhood. However,
the book picks up excitement in chapter 6 when about 50 Interhamwe armed
with machetes show up at her house. From then on the book remains action
packed even when Immaculee is hiding in a tiny bathroom with seven other
women. Overall, Left To Tell is my second favorite book that we read as a class
this year (The Other Wes Moore is my favorite).

Hotel Rwanda Synopsis

Tensions between the Hutus and Tutsis in Rwanda lead to a civil war where
corruption is a normalcy in the government. Paul Rusesabagina is the manager
of Sabena Hotel des Mille Collines. Paul is a Hutu, but his wife Tatiana is a Tutsi.
Paul has several relationships with influential people and he hopes that these
relationships will keep his family safe. Paul must also take care of countless of
Tutsi and Hutu refugees that flood the hotel. There are UN Peacekeeping troops
protecting the hotel but they are unable to take action because they are given
orders to not fire their guns. Eventually, the family and hotel refugees and taken
behind Tutsi rebel lines in a UN convoy and into safety.

Hotel Rwanda Review

Just like Immacule Ilibagizas Left To Tell, I thought that Hotel Rwanda started
off a bit slow. It was not until the Interhamwe and Hutu Army were shown that the
movie started to become eventul. One of my favorite parts of the movie was
when the UN tried to get Tutsis out of the country for the first time. The
Interhamwe found out that the UN were transporting Tutsis and began to attack
the convoy. The UN was able to make it out of the ambush, but they
had to go back to the hotel instead of getting the Tutsis out of
Rwanda. I thought that Hotel Rwanda was a great movie that truly
depicted what the Rwandan Genocide was like and what people
would do to save their family.

Left To Tell vs. Hotel Rwanda

Both Left To Tell and Hotel Rwanda give a look into what two
people went through during the Rwandan Genocide. However, these two
people both had very different points of view during the Holocaust. For
example, Immaculee Ilibagiza was a Tutsi so she spent most of her time
hiding from the Interhamwe. Also, Paul Rusesabagina was a Hutu who
was helping Hutu and Tutsi refugees at the hotel he managed. Although
they both had vey different perspectives during the holocaust in Rwanda,
they both had to witness the atrocities going on around them and keep
themselves safe amid the Rwandan Genocide.
