Overview
Company ACME Goods is a retail distribution company that acquires its products directly from the
producers and sell them to small/medium shops.
While at their customer location, sellers typically need to check the product database to explain the
product details and they dont want to type anything to find the products.

scanning the barcode directly

Step 1 Install OutSystems Now in your environment

1. Go to the OutSystems tab in the development tool and select OutSystems Now
2. Select install and then confirm the installation
Remark: This will enable you to connect to the platform using the OutSystems Now native app

1. Open the App Store (on iOS) or Google Play (on Android) and search for OutSystems
2. Install the App and open it

Step 4 Try out the apps in your mobile device

1. Enter your server details and login credentials


2. Select your app(s) and play with them on your phone
Remark: The OutSystems Now app works as a source of single sign on and a directory of all your
enterprise apps. It also enables you to access your phone's native functionality.

Step 5 Add reference to Barcode scanning web block

1. Click the Add/Remove References button on the toolbar


2. In the OutSystemsNow module, select the ScanBarcode web block and click OK
Remark: This will enable you to reuse this functionality within your application

Step 6 Add button to trigger Barcode scanning

1. In the Products screen create a new button by dragging the button widget from the toolbar
2. Name it ScanButton and change it's label to Scan
3. Define a dummy destination for the button (the actual behaviour will be handled in JavaScript)
Remark: This is the button to which you'll associate the bar code scanning functionally

Step 7 Assign scanning functionality to the button

ScanButton.ID
SearchInput.ID

1. Under the UI layer, find the ScanBarcode web block of the OutSystems Now module and
drag it next to the scan button
2. After dragging, define its ButtonId and InputId as seen in the screenshot
Remark: This will tell the Native module which button will trigger the scanning action and where to
place the barcode number that was scanned

Step 7 Set Barcode Scanning to only show in OutSystems Now

1. Add a reference to the IsUsingOutSystemsNowApp, under the OutSystems Now module


2. Change the Visible property of the Scan button so that it only shows in the right context
3. Publish your application
Remarks: this action will return true when called within the context of an application that's being
accessed through the OutSystems Now App
