Unit 6

Modern day, first world societies are based on the ability to mass produce. The ability for
a society to mass produce directly correlates to its ability to industrialize. The faster and more
efficient an area is able to industrialize, the higher its development will be. This is not only
applicable to countries but also businesses. Development is a process that changes over space
and time, but can also be sped up by catalysts like businesses who specialize in helping develop
companies like Alsbridge.
In the Alsbridge presentation, Chip Wagner and Craig Nelson came to discuss the future
of certain jobs that students may aspire to. Alsbridge was explained as a company to advise
several other countries, some including Fortune 500 companies. Other credentials of Alsbridge
include the lengthy experience between advisors as well as successful involvement in foreign
companies. In this presentation, we also learned about which jobs may be in less of a demand
because of new technological advances. Of course these jobs dont include jobs requiring high
education like doctors or lawyers, but new technology does have the potential to take lower,
intern-like jobs such as data entry. The technology to make program computers to do simple jobs
is obviously still being developed but is far more developed than the time of the 1980s when
computers were becoming a consumer good.
Usually when discussing development, geographers are generally referring to the stages
of growth in a country, whether that be using Rostows 5 stages or some other type of theory. The
idea that development changes over time and space is easily applicable to businesses. When there
is a company like Alsbridge that is dedicated to the development of businesses, the gap between
time and space is closed. Alsbridge acts to not only speed up the process but development of
business up it closes the long gaps between time and space. By doing so, it creates a more equal

field for development of businesses. There are several different companies that serve the same
purpose. Prior to these companies, businesses would rely on their head chiefs to make decisions
and hope that they are correct. With the help of outside businesses, companies are now able to
develop into something more productive in a shorter amount of time than before. With
companies like Alsbridge, smaller businesses are given an advantage they did not previously
have before. Smaller businesses that are not located in major cities may find trouble reaching the
same market as a Fortune 500 companies. With the help of companies like Alsbridge, it is easier
for these small companies to develop at the same rate as larger companies when advisory
companies are bridging the gap between time and space of larger companies versus smaller, new
businesses.
The same way that advisory companies help businesses, there should be some type of
supranational organization to help promote development among all countries. There is some
debate over high development in all countries because some people wish to take advantage over
valuable resources in third world countries. Though development is dependent on space and
time, outside factors can contribute to faster development.
