This document summarizes Eric Hager's results from labs assessing his current energy intake, energy requirements, weight loss goals, body image, and eating behaviors. The labs estimate his daily calorie needs at 3,968 calories and find he is currently meeting his energy needs without weight loss goals. Activities like basketball and biking could burn 300-500 extra daily calories. While his eating routine is systematic, he could benefit from adding more whole grain carbohydrates. He scores healthy on tests of body image and eating disorders.

Professor Dyal SPHE 290 Lab 9.1 Calculating Energy Needs Part I Estimating Current Energy Intake: Approximately 3700 calories per day. Part II Estimating Energy Requirements with Formula Age: 47 Height: 77 inches Weight: 235 pounds PA: 1.54 1. 9.72 47 age (years) = 456.84 2. 864 456.84 result from step 1 = 407.16 [result may be a negative number] 3. 6.39 235 weight (pounds) = 1501.65 4. 12.78 77 height (inches) = 984.06 5. 1501.65 result from step 3 + 984.06 result from step 4 = 2485.71 6. 1.54 PA (from table) 2485.71 result from step 5 = 3827.99 7. 407.16 result from step 2 + 3827.99 result from step 6 = 4235 calories per day Average = 3700 + 4235 = 7935/2 = 3968 Discussion on results: I was not surprised at all with the results as I tend to stay within the range of the recommended caloric intake. I generally feel that anything over 4000 is almost too much, especially because I do not eat a high proportion of carbohydrates. As such, I typically prefer to stay around 30003500 calories per day. Also, I do not have any weight loss goals, so this is definitely the amount I need to consume to maintain my current physical shape.
Lab 9.2 Identifying Weight Loss Goals
Negative Caloric Balance: I am currently at my target weight and do not desire to lose weight. Changes in Activity Level: Basketball: .045 * 235 * 30 = 317.25 calories Bicycling: .071 * 235 * 30 = 500.55 calories Elliptical Exercise: .049 * 235 * 30 = 345.45 calories Hiking: .051 * 235 * 30 = 359.55 calories Jogging: .060 * 235 * 30 = 423 calories Swimming: .032 * 235 * 30 = 225.60 calories Walking (Brisk): .048 * 235 * 30 = 338.40 calories Walking (Normal): .029 * 235 * 30 = 204.45 calories Changes in Diet: Presently, I do not need to reduce calories in any way, instead I could benefit by adding calories in the form of whole-grain carbohydrates; approximately 300-500 additional calories per day. Common Problem Eating Behaviors: None. My eating routine is very systematic, meaning that I eat every 2 to 3 hours to maintain my blood sugar levels. Each meal consists of a balance of protein, carbohydrate, and fat. The only issue may be a lack of whole grain carbohydrates; however, I tend to feel overly sluggish if I eat higher amounts of those. Lab 9.3 - Assessing Your Body Image: Score 0 (no issues with body image) Eating Disorder Checklist: Score 11 (healthy eating habits) Discussion on results: As expected, I am not surprised with my results. I have been consistently practicing these lifestyle and eating habits for over 7 years; however, it provides valuable insight into the struggles and challenges that my future clients may be having.
