CONDITION/DEFECTS: (general observations)


Leather is stiff, but overall good condition. Small amount of
deterioration on metal opening and pin. Cuts and losses in
leather leave the interior flesh vulnerable. Small lifts must be
consolidated.

Comments:
Good condition, overall. Dust on general surface, with some ingrained dirt and wax. Crizzled finish is likely not original, and will be
removed if possible. Small tears, cuts, and large loss must be consolidated and/or filled and inpainted.

Condition reported.
Completed treatment proposal and documentation.
Dry cleaned all surfaces using brush and vacuum, and cosmetic sponges.
Second dry cleaning using cosmetic sponges, and wet cleaned with acetone.
Wet cleaned wax accretion using mineral spirits; consolidated lift and cut
with Lascaux 498.
Filled loss using Japanese paper pulp in Lascaux 498. In-painted shallow
areas of loss and discoloured areas using acrylic paint.
Applied medium-gloss acrylic varnish to in-painting, and made final
documentation.
