1. Definition OSH
Occupational safety and health (OSH) is a cross disciplinary area concerned with
protecting the safety, health and welfare of people engaged in work or employment.
OSH is a basic human right for safety at work place.

To study and review the policies and legislation of occupational safety and health.
To enforce the following legislation :
o Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 and its regulations
o Factories and Machinery Act 1967 and its regulations
o Part of Petroleum Act 1984 (Safety Measures) and its regulations.
To conduct research and technical analysis on issues related to occupational safety
and health at the work place.
To carry out promotional and publicity programs to employers, workers and general
public to foster and increase the awareness of occupational safety and health.
To become a secretariat for the National Council regarding occupational safety and
health.
Positions that carry out inspection and/or investigation for the purpose of regulating,
controlling and ensuring compliance with the requirements of The Workplace Safety
and Health Act, the regulations pursuant to the Act and legislation.
Typical duties :
o Assists in carrying out inspection of workplaces and takes necessary action to
ensure compliance.
o Assists in responding to and investigating concern/complaints from
workers/employers and assists in taking appropriate action.
o Assists in investigating accidents or injuries that occur in the workplace.
o Assists in the establishment of workplace safety and health committees.
o Assists in the preparation of various reports, documents and forms.
