presented in the introduction should tie-in with the discussion section.

They should be used to provide a framework of what research has been done in the

field and provide context for what was done in this study. Remember this is a sales

pitch, and that means you need to provide relevance for your study. Why is this

important? Why should someone care about this work?

This is the section where background information should be included from

Finally, you have spent the last half of the semester formulating a hypothesis and

designing an experiment to test that hypothesis. That hypothesis should be clearly

stated in the final paragraph of your introduction, this would also be an appropriate

place to presumptively identify your isolate to the genus and species level. The final

paragraph focuses on what was done in this study.
