Narcissism
Hi my name is Briana, my name is Dani, and I'm Emily. Welcome to our podcast!
Our podcast is about narcissism. Narcissism is defined as an excessive or erotic interest in
oneself and one's physical appearance. We made a poll for the self-made resource and the
question for it was, Do you think loving yourself is more important than loving a partner? The
results for the poll are: 131 people said yes (81%) and 30 people said no (19%). The following is
a story about a blogger who is narcissistic. She focused her posts on the high-status people she
met and fancy places she went. She presents herself as someone highly educated and familiar
with high-class people. When her readers would comment on her posts disagreeing with her
views, she would respond that they were wrong. She believes she is special and superior to most
people, and her blog is her outlet to express this view. This story relates to Mercutio in Romeo
and Juliet because he also believed that he was better than everyone else, and he announced his
opinions to all of the residents in Verona.
Narcissism shows its colors in Romeo and Juliet through different relationships between
several fictional characters that Shakespeare portrays in this text. For example, Mercutio has an
excessive amount of love for himself in the play. We know this because he boasts and brags
often. Also, he constantly seeks the attention of everyone in any room where he is present. He
tends to be clamorous, dramatic, arrogant, and likes to cause scenes wherever he goes. Another
narcissistic character is Tybalt. Tybalt likes to show off and impress his friends and family. Since

the Capulets and Montagues are feuding families, Tybalt likes to prove that his blood is worthier
than that which courses through the veins of the Montagues. He uses his status as a wall between
himself and those who are unworthy in his eyes. He is fiery and hot-headed. Tybalt could also be
described as impulsive, headstrong, reckless, and selfish.Tybalt and Mercutio let their anger get
the best of them and their fight ended in the spilling of Mercutios blood. Their vexation
extended out and even got to Romeo. He let his rage control his actions and, out of anger, he
murdered Tybalt.
Narcissistic people think that the world revolves entirely around them. They can seem like
the nicest people until they are crossed. These are the type of people who do not care what others
say. Today, narcissistic people are everywhere. Narcissistic people loom around the edges of
life and they have the ability to change but are too blinded by their own thoughts to see the world
how it is.
In conclusion, narcissism can be healthy in small doses. It is found in Romeo and Juliet and
can be found in the real world. As we see these characters, Romeo and Juliet, show us that this is
not the type of person we would want to be like. Nobody likes someone who is more in love with
himself than anyone else. The play Romeo and Juliet is a good example of narcissism and shows
us as people to try and be more considerate to others and not overly love ourselves.
