TO
RECEIVE
EMERALD
AWARD
FOR
LEADERSHIP
EUGENE,
OR
This
year,
the
Eugene
Chamber
of
Commerce
will
award
University
of
Oregon
President
Michael
Schill
the
first-ever
Emerald
Award
for
Leadership.
Not
only
has
Schill
completed
groundbreaking
research
on
legal
issues
pertaining
to
real
estate
and
housing
policy,
but
he
also
has
done
significant
additional
work
as
president
of
the
University
of
Oregon.
The
Board
of
Directors
of
the
Eugene
Chamber
of
Commerce
has
deemed
Schill
a
worthy
recipient
of
the
award.
He
has
only
resided
in
our
community
for
a
short
time,
but
has
already
worked
to
promote
issues
of
great
relevance
to
the
people
who
live
here
and
is
a
shining
example
of
exemplary
leadership,
said
David
Hauser,
president
of
the
Eugene
Chamber
of
Commerce.
The
Eugene
Chamber
of
Commerce
gives
The
Emerald
Award
for
Leadership
annually
to
a
local
person
who
demonstrates
innovative,
initiative-driven
leadership
in
the
community.
It
is
one
award
within
the
Emerald
Awards,
a
program
honoring
businesses
in
the
Eugene/Springfield
area
that
promote
the
communitys
vitality
and
quality
of
life.
A
panel
of
judges
from
the
Eugene
Chamber
of
Commerce
review
nominations
and
select
the
winners
in
a
variety
of
categories.
The
awards
have
taken
place
annually
since
2004.
Schill,
a
first-generation
college
student,
has
served
on
various
boards
of
several
universities
in
his
career.
Schill
served
as
the
dean
of
the
University
of
California
Los
Angeles
School
of
Law
from
2004
to
2009,
and
as
the
dean
and
Harry
N.
Wyatt
Professor
of
Law
at
the
University
of
Chicago
in
2010.
He
has
also
served
as
a
professor
of
law
and
urban
planning
at
New
York
University
and
professor
of
law
and
real
estate
at
the
University
of
Pennsylvania.
Schill
has
great
interest
in
property,
real
estate,
and
housing
law
and
policy,
and
is
the
author
and
co-author
of
three
books
and
over
40
scholarly
articles
on
the
subjects.
He
became
the
18th
president
of
the
University
of
Oregon
in
July
2015.

Eugene.
